I will answer this here and e-mail you.
Zyban and Welbutrin are the exact same thing with different names, like Motrin and Advil. All medication has potential side effects and, while none of my patients have ever had any renal problems from Welbutrin, I would not rule renal problems out as a potential side effect. Typically, something of that nature would take some time to develop and a good doctor should be checking your blood periodically.
Good luck with quitting.

Nice job with your opinion and I like your statement, "Try, try, and try". Often times to many people give up and that usually has deadly consequences.

Keep writing well!

A question... (Reply to this comment)

About Zyban. Is it bad for your liver? I have quit a hundred times myself. lol Sad but true.
I was on Welbutrin at one point in my life. I can not remember if it curb my passion for them or not. A long time ago. But I am curious about the Zyban.
E-mail me if you can. I may forget to check back here.

"Don't quit quitting," really rings a bell with me. I am trying, and failing, but still trying! This is my third attempt in three weeks ... I'm on day four, smoke free.

The most influential field trip I ever took . . . (Reply to this comment)
by viper1963
was to the local morgue when i was in the 7th grade. I will never forget the autopsy they were performing on a lady with advanced lung disease due to 50 years of smoking.
A non-smokers lungs are pink in color. This lady's lungs were BLACK like asphalt! Every air sac has this black ooze (like dripping oil) coming from them.
From that day on, I vowed never to put a cigarette, pipe or cigar in my mouth!
I have a sticker that says:
If drug addicts are called dope heads; do they call smokers butt-heads?

Good for you that you never started! It sounds like you are very supportive of your family's recovery from nicotine, they are lucky to have you.

It is hard, and a lot of people have no compassion about it, which makes it worse. Keep trying and if you haven't tried Zyban yet, why not ask your physician about it? Good luck.

Good Advice .... (Reply to this comment)
by conter7
I have wanted to quit for the longest time but find it so hard. Like I have no will power whatsoever, I can't go 24 hours .. nuts :(
It's extremely hard and I get really annoyed when people say when are you going to quit. Do they think its easy ..... like if they say can you throw that piece of paper in the garbage ... thats easy, quitting smoking is difficult.
I have a friend who can't go for minutes without having a butt. We were at a movie theatre (watching Blow) and as soon as they sparked up, he wanted a butt; -- took a leave of absence or something with the usher and went out for one.
Its disgusting but what can you do, the mind plays an important role.
Good Job

Wow, 1994! (Reply to this comment)

That's really great, Laura! I've never smoked, but I'm the only one in my family (parents and sisters) who never started. I used to feel like such an outcast, and hated breathing their second-hand smoke. Then my sister who was the heaviest smoker quit in 1992 on the patch. My father was forced to quit for good after his second quad bypass in 1993. Another sister quit in 1995 right before she became pregnant for the third time. My mother quit after more than 45 years on her FIRST try using the patch on New Year's 1999. Only one left to reform now! Congrats, I know it's hard.
