Pros: Sweet message about how mommies forget what it is like to be children.
Cons: Slight possibility that it could teach a child to tell Mommy to "Go away!"
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this book, because it is a fun read that children will enjoy. Plus, it has a sweet message.

Mommy Go Away! is a children's book by Lynne Jonell and Petra Mathers.
Summary of Mommy Go Away!
At the beginning of this story, Christopher's mother tells him to turn off the tv and pick up his blocks in order to take a bath. A disgruntled Christopher replies "Go away, Mommy! Go away on this boat!" Mommy declares that the toy boat is too small, so Christopher tells her to "Get small, Mommy!" So, Mommy shrinks until she fits in the toy boat. She braves big bathtub waves and a giant sea-duck, until she declares that she is scared and needs help. Christopher says that he will help his mommy. Once Mommy is out of the water, she demands to be big again. After Christopher reminds her to say "Please", he says that she can be big again. When she returns to regular mommy-size, she tells Christopher that it is hard to be so small. He says, "I know that already."
Other Observations about Go Away Mommy!
This book is very cute with child-like illustrations and print. The book is shown from the point of view of a child. It has a sweet message--that we mommies must remember that it is not easy to be little.
If you enjoy reading aloud (or even if you really don't), this book is a great read-aloud. You only need 3 voices--Christopher's, Christopher's mommy, and shrunken Christopher's mommy. The words are easily memorized, as my 4-year-old Henry can finish any line in the book if I begin it for him. "And the boat is so--" "Tippy!" "And the waves are so--" "Big!" Mommy Go Away! makes my son laugh.
The only negative aspect about this book is that it might teach a child to demand that his or her mommy "Go away!" or "Get small!" And that's not very nice.
How We Came to Own a Copy of Mommy Go Away!
My son selected this book at the library when he was three. We took it home and read it over and over, along with the other 3 books he selected. This book made him laugh and ask questions. He wanted to know if the toy boats in our bathtub were "tippy". Because I enjoyed reading this book to Henry, I ordered it from amazon.com for his fourth birthday. We both still love it.
