Well, I finally did it, I got rid of my good old Chrysler Town & Country Limited. While I loved the Van, it began to become a problem as we live in such a snowy area, not to mention my three children would FIGHT for the one captains chair in the back which did not have the baby seat in it.
So, finally after looking at just about everything under the sun, Acura MDX, Volvo SUV, Escalade, Ford Expedition, et al. I went for the Cadillac SRX. I needed a vehicle that was not high off the ground, one in which would not eat up gasoline, and one that would fit my 3 children extra if needed.
We brought this vehicle home for an overnight test drive. It was actually the V-8, it was a luxury package however it did not have the sunroof, the DVD, nor did it have a confusing GPS system. Boy let me tell you how awesome this vehicle is, the V-8 drives like a sports car, and I really mean that. My husband has a new BMW 540 i series (his car is a v-8 also), that cost him upwards into the $60,000 range. When I pulled in the driveway with the SRX, he immediately came running out, and believe it or not ended up driving it all night long. He loved it more than I ever imagined he would. The following day he decided that we were going to get this Cadillac.
So back to the dealer we went, we know the dealer/owner well and he kept telling me that I would not need the V-8 and to test drive the V-6, but I was so hooked on the V-8 other than the fact that it ATE up every ounce of gasoline I had pumped into it. Reluctantly I did as advised, and I was even more impressed with this SUV. The SRX was just fine with the newly updated V-6 engine, and how amazing was it that the V-6 did not eat up gas, not even CLOSE to it's sister with the V-8. I can drive at least 400 miles on the highway before I need to refuel.
I did not want that huge sunroof that is often offered, actually I did not want a sunroof at all. Why? Probably because of fear due to an accident I was hurt in years ago. Just thinking of having glass surrounding my little ones made me so incredibly nervous. Nor did I want the DVD player that is located near the FLOOR where only 2 passengers can watch a movie. We opted to have the DVD installed on the ceiling of the car so that all 5 back seats can watch and listen to movies or play games.
The other option I absolutely dislike is the GPS monitor. You may be wondering why, and I shall honestly tell you that as a mother, I do not need any added distractions while driving. Our BMW has it and it literally drives me insane, to many times have my eyes been off the road trying to figure out what the heck I am doing. Yeah, just another distraction with children in the car. Honestly who needs that when you have ONSTAR at the touch of a button, and a kind person who can tell you anything you need to know without your eyes ever leaving the road.
The SRX I have has the XM radio (still trying to figure it all out), it also has a 6 disk in dash player. My car also has the Cadillac hands free phone in it, so again a touch of a button and your voice tells what number to dial. This a feature I really have used a lot and I am very happy to have it. My SRX came with two automatic 8 way seats, they both have lumber support, and also automatic adjustable petals. When I get into the car it has my first name in the dash and says "WELCOME" it adjusts itself to the way I like my seat and petal positions. If my husband drives it will do the same for him as long as he uses his own key.
There are three programmable garage door openers built in, and the third seat is power folding, no more busting your back to put seats up or down. The third row has seating for 2, and unless you are a small adult or a child, don't even bother trying to sit back there. It is most definitely a comfortable car, notice how I keep saying car? Well, the SRX drives like a car, it handles so well, and just as any other Cadillac this one will take you over a pot hole with grace and superior handling, not a huge "SLAM" as some other vehicles seem to. You know when everyone holds on tight as they can upon seeing a rather large hole in the road? Not with this Cadillac, FEAR NOT~!
The SRX is expensive, and it becomes more and more expensive when you start adding items such as the GPS, the ultra-sunroof, and many other options. This is a safe SUV, with curtain airbags, also has anchors for car seats on all of the seats in the back (easy to install the car seat).
With all three rows of seating up, I am able to fit my Mclaren Stroller in the trunck, along with grociers. When the third row is down, WOW you have so much room you can fit just about anything back there. These seats (third row) actually fold right into the floor making the back of the car FLAT as if there were not a third seat. There are plenty of cup holder's (8), and believe me Cadillac does do a wonderful job with the real wood grain, windows, power dimming side windows and rear view mirror.
When you back up the SRX your side mirrors are auto and they tip down so you can see the ground, and there are sensors in case there is ANYTHING behind the car. So a delicate beeping will help warn you IMMEDIATY. If there is something RIGHT behind the car the auto sensors become extremely loud and fast, "Beep, Beep, Beep..".
My advice to you is simple, drive the V-6 first, if it doesn't meet your fancy try the V-8. If you are a mother and your mind is all over the place as your children scream, FORGET the GPS/NAVIGATION system, it just is a huge pain in the neck. Having a BMW with the GPS/NAV in it, all I have ever gotten is MAD and CONFUSED while trying to use it. This is a gadget for people who absolutey love it, and cannot live without it, oh and those who know how to use it. If you only have two children and they behave, as in not breaking things, go for the DVD. Oh, and do drive all the other SUV's I mentioned BEFORE trying the SRX.
It was told to me that CADILLAC is coming out with NEW packages that will include more for your money, I believe in the next few months. We purchased this car at RJBurne- Cadillac & Oldsmobile Northeast PA.
GOOD LUCK! I am on my way out for a drive, so have a wonderful day.
