Plextor is a "HOT" name in the computer CD burn world. While at the Expo show on Saturday, there was just so many representatives giving their talk. I of course got mine there. What a price $199!! I couldn't beat it. This is my first burner. I used to run over a friends house to use their burner and had constant problems. I said to her, one day I am going to get the hottest thing out and we won't have any more screw-ups! Well guess who is running over whose house now!
Installation was a breeze. The booklet that comes with your Plextor is very self-explaining. The booklet shows you exactly where this unit is supposed to go. Upon boot up and your windows system will acknowledge the new hardware immediately. The installation disk was a 1-2-3 snap.
Burning CD's never got any faster. In just about 6 minutes, give or take you can have one hot off the press. You can load 75 minutes of music in this 6 minutes. This model here has a CD-R (CD recordable) and CD-RW (CD rewriteable).
One of the features that helped my choice with choosing Plextor, is the Burn-Proof technology. This basically means you can multi-task while burning. In some other models or older versions, you were not able to do this, otherwise you would get errors and unsuccessful burns. These are usually called " buffer underrun errors". This error occurs usually when the CPU is busy with another application, or the sharing of system resources. The buffers don't fill correctly, therefore leaving an unsuccessful burn. This technology lets the burner pause and wait for the computer to catch up.
Plextor with its technology will stop the buffer, until it levels out and then will continue to write, where it had left off. Now that's a real treat! I hated the fact that everytime I was going to burn a CD, I would have to make an appointment with myself to find something else to do, while the burner was operating. Now with Plextor I can just go on my merry way of other computer work while it burns in the background.
The Drive
The Plexwriter is an internal ATAPI drive that offers an unforeseen 12X write, 10X rewrite, and 32X read. Capable of 24x Digital Audio Extraction. The Flash ROM is upgradeable on the Internet.
Software Package
Adaptec EasyCD Creator 4 (this version 4 lets you directly load the MP3 without having to convert)
Please note- Adaptec's Easy CD Creator, is known to have buggy complications. You might experience it conflicting with your other software.
The Plextor Manager 2000 - comes with a player, a disc copier and a CD ripper -) you can use others available from online I like to use Music Match Jukebox.
Music Video Producer 2000 - is good for decoding media formats (AVI,CDA, MPEG, MP3, WAV, and WMA)
