One of the nicest hotels and casinos in Atlantic City

Written: Jun 19 '04 (Updated Jun 19 '04)
Pros:The hotel is very clean, which is always a plus in casino hotels.
Cons:The food needs a little work, not up to standard.
The Bottom Line: This is one of nicest places on the Boardwalk, you will enjoy your stay here.

I have been to Atlantic City many times and by far I think this and the Borgata are the best. We arrived on Friday around 5:30pm and the staff was great. The valet is $4.00 for your stay and the bell staff was excellent. They had our car unloaded in minutes, which I thought was impressive due to how busy they were. We went to check in and that is a small journey. Of course when you walk in you have to be in the casino, how silly would it be if they did not direct you right to the slots. The lobby is up the escalator and off to the left side. The lobby is beautiful with large fountains marble floors, huge ceilings, and a upscale dining area straight ahead. The front desk is huge and very well staffed. I had received a free night in the mail for a past stay so I am not sure of room rates. I have seen them on places like expedia for around $300.00 for a weekend night so beware. I asked if we could have a nice view since the hotel sits right on the Atlantic Ocean. When we arrived at our room it was not a nice view, it was the view. We sat on the 27th floor overlooking the ocean. He also gave us a corner view so we had two windows it was great.

The room looks like it was brand new. The room itself was quite large. You walk into a small hallway with the bathroom off to the side. The bathroom is huge with marble floors. They do get slippery after a shower so be careful, I almost went for a ride. The room was large with beautiful furnishings, the whole room had such a roman theme. The bed was a king and was very comfortable. There was a safe and mini bar as well as a table and chair overlooking the ocean. There was no wear at all. I have to think the room was recently updated.

I looked around trying to see all the hotel had to offer. It has a large indoor and outdoor pool. There was a gym and tennis courts outside. There are many dining areas. The only one I thought was any good was the buffet, and if you have read any of my other reviews I am not usually that keen on buffets. The buffet is $24.99 for lunch and $29.99 for dinner. It has many different meats and a carving station as well as the usual side dishes and salads, but the main event here is all you can eat shrimp and crab legs. The desserts are a many but they really don't stand out. We ate at the casual dining area next to the buffet as well, I am sorry I can't remember the name and the food was awful. They burnt my hamburger to a crisp, I mean you literally could not bite into it. My husbands steak sandwich was cold and loaded with onions after he specifically asked for little onions. The manager did take it off the bill after he saw we did not eat it but it's the only place opened late night and I was starving.

The slots here are unpredictable. I was last here in February and won almost $1,000, needless to say they got there money back this time. My husband sat down to Let It Ride and $200.00 lasted not even a hour. I was bummed, but hey what are going to do. The casino is two large floors with slots ranging from 5 cents to what I saw $25.00. There are many gaming tables ranging from $10.00 to again what I saw $50.00. The casino does get crowed but it is able to keep up with the crowd.

Make sure you use the comp. system when you are here. I ate three meals, bought around $50.00 worth of stuff from the gift shop and stayed in the hotel all for free. They are very generous with the comps. so take advantage of it.

Check out was a breeze. Check out is at noon which is nice gives you some extra time. The line to checkout was long though, but they did have tons of staff on and it did move quickly. All in all I paid $10.00 in taxes.

This is a great place to stay. It is located right on the boardwalk, centrally located as well, with many casinos off to both sides of it. Makes it easy walking distance to Bally's, Claridge, Trump Tower, Sands. It is a little walk to Hilton, Tropicana, Taj Mahal, and a cab ride away from Borgata, Trump Marina, and Harrahs.
