The Holiday Inn beats any expectation or preconceived notion of what a Brasil Hotel should be, let alone what a Holiday Inn in an overseas country may be like. It was on par with any of the most upscale resorts in which we have stayed anywhere in the US or Carribbean.
The hotel is situated across from a wide, although not useable beach. The beach waters have too much current to swim however, strolling there is a delight as there is a nearly constant breeze.
The hotel is a short stroll to several restaurants as well as a wide array of street vendors. One of the interesting things about the location of this hotel is that directly across the street is where public celebrations are held! We were in Fortaleza on New Years Eve. Our room faced this stretch of beach and open space where the party for the town was held. There was live music from about 8 pm until 4 am. It was visable and of course filtered into our room which was high above the street level. Keep this in mind if you do not want to be part of a party. It was, however, orderly and well guarded (both the party and the hotel property).
Buses run up and down the main road in front of the Holiday Inn and we felt this was a great asset to those of the guests who wanted to utilize the constant stream of public transit.
The room was huge and clean and perfectly air conditioned and is obviously set up for business travelers as it has a large desk and computer hook up. The television receives stations that broadcast in all languages and subtitles. I found this entertaining in its own way. For example, there was a station broadcasting in French with subtitles in Portuguese and one station in English with Portuguese subtitles. Something for all languages!!
The beds had some of the softest percale sheets I have encountered. The bath was fabulas and fully stocked with fragrant soaps and plush huge towels.
The front desk staff could not be nicer!
The breakfast buffet, included with the price of your room, was huge, had everything ranging from omlettes to fruits to dried meats. The restaurant was also a wonderful place to have dinner with full meals for two costing about $20 and service that was outstanding.
A better run, better maintained hotel would be difficult to find!
