Hey where did that little memory card go? Yeah, they really are that small.
Lexars 32mb multimedia memory card (MMC) is a compact and small way to add storage to devices with an MMC compatible slot. With their 32mb MMC, Lexar offers a quality memory card that should provide enough storage for people who do not need that much space.
Background
After I got the boyfriend an MP3 player that accepted MMCs, I figured I would pick up a small memory card to start him on his way to expanding the storage of the MP3 player. I didnt want to get a larger card in case he decided that he didnt like the player and the Lexar card was inexpensive and what I guessed to be a good introduction to additional storage.
What does it hold & how well does it work?
Being used in an MP3 player, the average 32-megabyte MMC will hold about 4 songs, depending upon the size of the MP3 file (Im guessing an average of about 8mb for each song). You can see that a smaller card like this 32mb one will fill up very quickly and doesnt offer that much more additional space for music players.
If you were using this card in a digital camera, the number of images able to be stored on the card would vary in regards to the resolution and file format you were saving each image in. With a 4-megapixel camera, a raw image can be about 10 megabytes each, which means youll only get maybe 3 pictures on the card. However if youre shooting at a lower resolution or with a lower resolution camera and storing images in the jpg format, then you might be able to get significantly more. A 2 or 3-megapixel camera at a lower resolution might be able to store about 20 to 30 pictures on a single 32mb MMC.
The speed of the recording to the memory card is good and comparable and is based more on the connection you have from the card to the device writing to it then the card itself. Generally flash memory readers are connected to a computer with a USB cable. Depending upon the USB version (1.1 or 2.0), the read and write times from the card will be quick to very quick. When using the card in the MP3 player, there is no lag to the player reading the files.
The MMC cards are very small and easy to transport and carry (they are also very easy to lose, considering how small and light they are). The card is only about a half an inch long and just under that wide and weighs almost nothing. I wouldnt suggest throwing them around, dropping them or otherwise bashing them up, but the MMC cards can take normal use without any problems. They are not waterproof and shouldnt be exposed to temperature extremes.
Well?
If you are looking for a small MMC, Lexars is a reasonably priced and reliable choice for you. Cards cost about $23 (less than a $1 a megabyte), are well made and should last for as long as you need them.
Warning!
I would caution you though that 32mb is pretty small for most of todays applications so consider what size you need before you pick up your card. You may be better off picking up a larger size memory card instead of such a small one.
Final Thoughts
If you only need 32mb of storage, then youd do well picking up one of Lexars 32mb Multimedia Memory Cards. They are reliable and inexpensive and worth having in your flash memory stockpile.
