WEB SITE FUNCTION AND DESIGN:
I found the web site design to be adequate with the company's address, phone numbers and policies easy to find on the side bar of their home page. The polices are explicit, and are as fair, or better, than those on many other sites. I used the search feature to find the item I wished to purchase and was linked through to the appropriate page, but it is easy to browse, as well.
I ordered a Nikon Coolpix 5200, that had a "special cart discount" which appeared after one put the item into the shopping cart. There was free shipping on the item, clearly indicated when "7-10 business days" was selected. Checkout was easy and secure. An email was sent to confirm my order.
BUYDIG.COM/WORLDWIDE DIRECT:
As indicated on the web site, the company is a member in good standing of the better Business Bureau of New Jersey, as posted on it's site (check it out yourself at www.bbb.com).
MY BUYING EXPERIENCE:
I approached this online site with some trepidation, having just been burned by another vendor (www.digitallydiscovered.com)on which I filed a complaint with the NY Attorney General. I have to admit that, due to previous experience and after reading site reviews, my expectations of electronics sites which offer low prices were pretty low. However, my experience with buydig.com was wonderful.
I ordered my camera on 6/22/04 in the evening and received a confirmation email almost immediately. The next morning I received an email with a Federal Express tracking number which would become effective as of 10pm (the email was a bit confusing, but I could track my package with no problem at around 9:45pm that evening).
DELIVERY
My camera was delivered to my home on 6/25/04. That's three days, folks...and I used the free shipping, 7-10 day delivery!
The packaging was well-padded and arrived in pristine condition. The camera is brand new and intact, with all paperwork and US warranty.
WHAT BUYDIG.COM DIDN'T DO
They didn't call me to "confirm" my information and sell me high priced accessories. They didn't delay sending me my camera. They didn't charge my credit card until they sent me the tracking number.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
I didn't have to contact customer service for any reason as I didn't encounter any problems, so I'm not able to comment on that aspect. Apparently, others have had problems in that area. My only recommendation is this: ALWAYS, NO MATTER FROM WHOM YOU ORDER, PRINT OUT YOUR RECEIPT AND KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE. If you do have to speak with customer service, get the person's name and extension; record the date and time of the call and what was said. If possible, get the person to email you so that you have everything in writing.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Clearly, I had great luck using this site. With the free shipping option, this site offered a competitive price on the item I wanted. I would, given my experience, definitely buy from this site again.
