Picture Me Naked!
May 07 '01
The Bottom Line In my opinion, no glossary on basic skin care would be complete without including information about the topic I'm covering here: the treatment of irritating rashes.
Picture me naked (Warning: You might need to have a barf-bag handy for this exercise). . .
Okay, focus on my big, fat, hanging-over belly and the area just below it.
Now that you're concentrating on the correct area of my body, I'm going to give you a more detailed description.
For some reason, the left side of my belly seems to droop more than the right side of my belly.
It is, therefore, more inclined to trap and hold any sweat I might sweat, any bacteria, etc. Thus, more likely to be the side to get a major case of heat rash on.
Now, let me tell you about my last major case of heat rash.
It had gotten so severe that it was almost nauseating--and it ended up spoiling a shopping spree for me, because I couldn't stand the feeling of changing clothes so many times at one time. In fact--if not for laws prohibiting it and my own sense of modesty--I would have not only quit trying on clothes that day but I also would have removed the rest of mine and exited Fashion Bug Plus wearing my birthday suit and carrying my clothes!
As it was, I simply gave up on trying on clothes that day, didn't go to choir-practice that week (even though it was the last practice--besides a run-through at church the following Sunday morning--for our Easter Cantata. I would be wearing no new Easter outfit this year--and was just hoping I would feel like going to church Easter Sunday), and canceled a dinner date with a tiger of a guy.
Once I got home, I DID strip naked--except for putting a pair of old, soft panties between the fold made by the combination of my belly and the area just below it.
This entire area was an angry-red--and the fold, itself, came just short of being broken, bleeding skin.
When I mentioned this to my mom, she told me that she still had some cream and ointment of Uncle George's that was left over after he passed away in December of 1998.
There was very little of the white cream left, but I applied the remainder to my irritation. I could feel an improvement almost right away.
The next application--and those that followed--consisted of the ointment form.
Each application brought further improvement.
By the time Easter Sunday rolled around, I was all ready for church, Sunday dinner, and a Sunday drive!!!
What brand of cream and ointment did I use? Cortizone 10, which is made by the Pfizer company and sold OTC. I used the maximum strength able to be sold without a prescription.
I still have some left in the tube of ointment. I now have it in a handy spot--in the top drawer of the desk that my computer is sitting on--and ready to be used for immediate attack the next time that I have a sign of a redevelopment of my rash.
Picture me naked. After all, I just happen to be naked right now--but, at least, I'm naked because I'm choosing not to wear clothes at this time rather than because it's unbearable to!
