I think my 84th opinion will be about Epinions. Why not?? Everyone else writes about it. Not that anyone particularly wants or needs another viewpoint, but I'll offer one anyway. I'm sure most people won't agree with me, but here is my view on a much-debated topic -- "rubber stamping": You're in a rush?? Have thousands of opinions to r/r?? Not much time to do it in?? Would rather be reading a good book?? Have a work deadline to meet?? Would much rather be spending time with your beautiful children?? Have housecleaning to do?? BY ALL MEANS --- I understand!!! Please rubber-stamp me and get on with your LIFE!! And let me tell you that I appreciate you taking a few seconds out of your life to give me a penny and the effort made. I KNOW that you could be doing other things. I honestly appreciate it!! Perhaps you like ME, but are not really interested in the topic I chose to write about today. That's OK!! I don't expect you to spend 5 minutes on something you couldn't care less about. However, out of the kindness of your heart, you showed me that you think I am worth a tiny piece of your day. I know that if I write something that really catches your eye, or touches you in some way, or is something you really want or need advice on, you will stop and pay a bit more attention. I hope that my words help you in some small way. I enjoy writing Epinions, and I hope you enjoy reading some of my work. I have to say that I really have learned quite a bit from some of you. Some opinions have really opened my eyes and taught me something I didn't know before. I have had the pleasure of writing things here that I decided afterwards to print out and put in my children's babybooks. I honestly doubt that I would have thought about writing them had it not been for this site. How terrific is THAT??!! *grin* I hope Epinions continues running. I think it is a terrific idea that obviously has taken off. Yes, we are only earning a penny per hit. Granted, I'd be lying if I said I loved the decrease in pay, but where else would I be able to rant and vent and get PAID to do it at all?? Being a stay-at-home Mom, for me personally this site has been a great outlet. I can log on and read something another ADULT wrote today. I feel part of a greater, larger group and able to temporarily have a break from those that I ADORE who are 11 and 3 (almost 4!!) years old. This is a place where I can come and feel like my words can help someone else. That is worth more than a penny. Perhaps we should look at it as a positive way to express ourselves that WE don't have to pay for, instead of losing money having people pay US to read OUR stuff. Now, I must say that I really miss some of the topics they have removed. I really enjoyed reading those posts that you could tell someone put their heart and soul into ... a cause that touched them so greatly that they HAD to speak out about it. I loved reading AND writing in the "Kids & Family Editorials" when they had that available. I don't know about you, but I could write for days straight in that section!! LOL I guess to write about the "Epinions" site in particular, I first need to think of how I personally use Epinions. When I am in the mood to write, I first have to find something to write about. I either have an object in mind that I search for and hope they have listed, or I go hunting through sections to find topics that I have some small amount of knowledge on that I feel can at least add to someone's views, or hopefully really assist with. Now reading ... I have tried several ways and I think I have hit on what works best for me. I had joined quite a few of the swap lists. The groups where you post what you've written and hope others read -- you know the type. Well, I am still on some of those and they help greatly. However, I don't count on everyone being honest and living up to their end of the "deal." Lately, I have been clicking on those that have read my latest opinions written and I read at LEAST 5 of their most recent reviews. This does keep me busy, and I have been able to "get to know" quite a few people that I normally wouldn't have bumped into. This keeps me up to date on those that read on my lists, those that happen to catch me in the "just in" section, AND those that run into a post of mine while they were surfing around the site. This allows me to "meet" others that are not in a "reading circle" also. I sometimes read those that are posted in the "just in" section. I enjoy being able to read a "fresh" opinion sometimes. That can be a responsibility. If we are being honest, there are a lot that DO "rubber-stamp" and if I am the first to rate an opinion, I may be setting that opinion up to be "labeled" forever as whatever I decide to rate it. I know that there will be quite a few who will probably be angry at my opinion. But, that is the beauty of it ... it is MY opinion. You don't have to agree with everything I say. I don't expect you to. I don't expect to agree with everything everyone else writes either. But, thank goodness there is SOMEPLACE we can all go to as a "melting pot" of ideas, comments, questions, advice, etc., on almost everything and anything out there!! Thanks to those who have helped me make better purchasing decisions on items I have needed or wanted. I wish I could have had all of this advice when my daughter was a newborn!! Thanks also to those who have made me feel welcome here!! I hope to continue being part of this large "extended family"!! HAPPY WRITING ALL!!!  |
