I remember my mom always had these in the kitchen while I was growing up. She swore by them, but of course, when I got my own apartment, they were too expensive. Basically, they weren't sold at the dollar store, so I didn't buy them. But about 6 months ago, I finally caved and bought a package of 3, at Target, for about $2.Details
The 3 sponges come in a bright green cardboard box, with a cutout at the top so you can feel the texture of the sponge.
The actual sponges are 4.3 inches X 2.6 inches X .5 inches. They are a yellow sponge wrapped in a textured sponge. So the texture part will "scour without scratching" and the sponge will absorb any cleaning solution you desire.

Performance
I use these every night on my dishes. Before starting, I pour a little bit of dish soap in the sponge and that's all I need for an entire sink full of dishes. They work wonderfully on dirty pots, pans, plates, glasses, everything! I use them on all my non-stick pans and they have never ruined the coating. I use them to clean my stainless steel kitchen sink, and they do a great job at getting the dried bits of food off. The box claims that they can be used on automobiles as well, but I have not tried this yet.
I have also used these in the bathroom and they make the chrome faucets sparkle! The water in California is very hard, and leaves nasty hard water spots on the faucets, countertops, etc. Because the outer layer of the sponge is a bit rough, getting into the corners of the shower is a breeze!
Recommendation
I highly recommend the Scotch-Brite Dobie sponges. For under $2 you can get 3 sponges, which usually last about 3-4 weeks each.
