Pros: tight tight tight ride, simple approach to dashboard, solid quality
Cons: a little pricey when you add up the options
The Bottom Line: This is fun "car" that corners like a sportcar, has 4 wheel drive, get's 24 MPG, but can still pick up the family.

| kwoloson's Full Review: 2004 BMW X3 |
The car feels right...it's solid, it's tight, and yes, the shocks are tight. I knew exactly what I was getting when I bought this. If users want a Cadillac ride, then get a Cadillac.
I have been driving Mercedes E320's the past 8 years and am a fan of German technology. Our family also has the ML class Mercedes. I wanted to try a tighter car for a change the choice was easy once I found out BMW was making a smaller version of their X5.
I bought the 3.0 engine that is fine. It's not a rocket ship but think it does about 7.5 0-60 so I'm happy with it. I also notice that It has a great passing gear for those folks sitting in the left lane going 55. This car handles like a go-cart. You won't believe how well it corners even at pretty high speeds. I have also been extremely impressed with it's computer controlled handling that "knows" when I driving out of control...the engine actually revs down or up depending on factors. The full time drive is awesome (I have driven on some very slippery mud and it acted better then some Jeeps I've been in).
As for the inside, I have leather seats with the upgraded trim package. The seats have a nice electronic lumber support that is great for lower back pain folks. The double glass moon roof is a nice touch as well. The standard stereo is more than enough quality for me. I did add XM which rocks. The interior is great...no clutter, smart buttons.
One thing that is amazing to me is the storage. This really is a car with 4 wheel drive so my expectations are not high. However, after a month of driving it, I can't believe the amount of storage is has. Someone told me it has only like 3 cubic feet less than the X5 in a car that is 700 pounds lighter! You can fill it very nicely.
