Contact your local BBB!! (Reply to this comment)
by sublime7
After a ridiculous battle between numerous customer service agents, letters written and phone calls made to no avail, I found our little fried the Better Business Bureau. A silent but deadly killer in the world of getting what you want out of the greedy bastards that rule the industry.
I won't bore you with the details of my problem, but after a complaint to the local BBB...it was a matter of months before my problem was resolved. Now months is nothing compared to a year of getting no where.
The outcome took off unnecessary charges and cleared any threatened credit problems it may have caused me. I was contacted by the "Problem Resolution Manager" and all I had to do was return my phone.
My suggestion is if their customer service doesn't do it for you, file a complaint....and then just to get them back, once Worldcom has fixed the problem, don't file a resolution....it'll be your little way of sticking it to them.
Peace & Love,

Take action against shady service providers! (Reply to this comment)

In case anyone reads this who is currently suffering through a similar customer service problem, a word of advice. I have found that the best approach is as follows:
1. write a professionally worded, polite letter (I always have to rewrite mine 10 times to take out the fuming) to the company informing them in excruciating detail of the problem
2. include a paragraph in the letter indicating that you are forwarding a copy to the following people: the state Attorney General for your state, the state Department of Consumer Protection, and the Consumer Protection Division of the Federal Trade Commission (all of these addresses are available online)
3. at the end of the letter, include a "cc:" list, and then actually forward the letter to each of these places.
In my experience, this approach has succeeded in getting an immediate response and a full refund every time!

Hope you end up getting out of all this unscathed...maybe we should start billing MCI for the time?
And...did you actually receive a 'real' bill? Mine has 1-month's service charge...and about US$1,000 'mystery' charges.

This review could have sure saved me a lot of heartache, had I read it 2 months ago! I've had my own run in with these horrible people, and have written a letter and have yet to have a response. Ugh! Buyer most definitely Beware! Thanks for your report, I hope more people will take heed! Suzanne

But if you'd asked me before you took the plunge, I would have told you, though, "Run, don't walk away from anything MCI!"

Good luck with MCI (Reply to this comment)

I learned about their customer service and the incredibly confusing set up they have there a few months ago. It's the luck of the draw as to who you talk to and I finally settled my problem when an actual helpful CS answered the phone. Incidentally, I did get my bonus offer (a different one) but the service was never hooked up and we were still getting billed after I cancelled. All is well now, but I'd run, very fast once you clear the issue up! Good review! Robin
