Poetry.com is a great place to visit if you enjoy reading and writing poetry. I discovered it surfing the web one day a couple of years ago. I got involved and went to a convention in Florida--it was great! It's amazing how simple words can bring people together from around the world!

Poetry.com is a unique and exciting company that people can use to share their poetic works. They have books, t-shirts, mugs, and other products that are inexpensive and top quality, which are produced in a timely manner. Anyone that is interested in writing poetry should visit the site to see everything they offer, which is too much to mention in this comment field.

A friend of mine emailed me a link a while ago to poetry.com. The link was for a cardtoon (an animated poet that you can interact with) which kept me laughing for half an hour. Since then i've explored the site a little and found it to be full of interesting stuff. The daily poetry puzzle contest, the haiku contest, the online poetry bash, and the view real time entries are some of my favs. I've even been inspired to submit a poem or two myself. They were not as great as some of the poetry i've read at poetry.com (like in the greatest poems section) but I feel that I have something to contribute to the site. I can't wait to see one of my poems published in a book! And I had no idea that you could buy stuff with my poem on it (thanks calwaone), i'll be checking that out today. I highly recommend this site to everyone who wants to have a good time reading, writing and enjoying poetry!

poetry.com is indeed a valuable resource for all poets. (Reply to this comment)

If you want to know the state of poetry today, poetry.com is the place to go. With over a million entries that represent every walk of life, every thought, feeling, or emotion imaginable, this site is a must-visit for anyone who enjoys writing or reading poetry. In addition to the monthly prizes, there is a yearly Grand Prize of $10,000.00 that is awarded to the writer of the best submission received all year. That poetry.com will accept for publication such a large percentage of its submissions does not make it a scam; rather it allows the company to follow through with its mission: to provide a venue for writers to see their work in print and to share it with like-minded people. This site is the perfect place poetry-lovers to be part of a world-wide community with a common goal--to create poetry that truly expresses what they have to say and to share it with the world.

Re: Sorry+for+my+rating./don't be sorry, I write well! (Reply to this comment)

I've had my poetry published in so many books that I don't need to feel 'special' for a place to put my poetry for free. Yes, it can be a scam. However, what can't? I know that my poetry is excellent, at least, it has always paid me well. My sons' poetry is work that any teacher/poet/reader would love. It has helped them with their confidence to write more. There will always be rip offs. The secret is to make it work FOR you, not against you. I love this site. As I said, it is a great place to keep my poetry available for myself, my out of town relatives, and for getting things like little, private, exclusive, small priced gifts that could only be purchased by myself (written by me) for family members and friends. It is sad that someone took the trouble to write poorly, when the writing is free and the availability is free. I said, "Don't buy the book"......and I stick to that. I think that is where the scam is, of which you speak. Poets who are serious will find this site an adventure and a pleasure. I stick to that. Thanks for writing. (Positive thoughts to you!) gladys

Sorry for my rating. (Reply to this comment)

but according to my research, I've discovered that Poetry.com is a SCAM. They earn a lot more money, then they give out. Not to mention, that no matter what kind of poetry you write, you get accepted for publication into their books. Someone did a study once, ACTUALLY TRYING TO GET REJECTED FROM BEING PUBLISHED. They wrote disgusting, inadequate poetry, that had no rhyme, no rhythm, and no point. They still got the letters telling them that their poetry was great, and that it was accepted for publication. Therefore I can't in my right mind, rate his as Very Helpful, since I don't think people should see something prompting them to go to a scam site.
