I have always written poetry. . .at least, since I was a very young child. More than just rhymes, for me. Poetry has always been the diary I didn't dare write, and the place to vent my inner most needs and closures. I am excited about having found Poetry.com on the net! I've been published a lot in their books, and it CAN be a money earning way to just 'vent'! They do give prizes of money! Since, most readers are writers, it seems to me that many of you would love to join this free site. Here, you can enter a poem once every 30 days for the contests, but, you can, also, just write a poem for own 'needs', when ever. You can have this poetry sent to friends, by picking out your own background, font, etc.. My elder son wrote the most beautiful poem for a family of a boy (his age) who died a violent, swift death. The poem was used at the young man's funeral as a eulagy. The poem WAS published, hard bound, by Poetry.com, and then, I just had it put on one of their T-Shirts for him to keep. The shirt is great. Heavy material, great caligraphy, and signed with his name. . .at the bottom. This is a great gift, I think. It is one of a kind, for certain! (His birthday is this month). He will be surprised! I use this site to write my poetry. I use it for days when I feel silly or sad or contemplative. It just feels great to get the feelings into words, and to be able to retrieve that poetry when ever I want to. As I said, no fees involved if you just write and save the poetry on their site. The books that Poetry.com does publish are expensive, in my opinion. (I like the shirts at $16.99). They do publish you, but, if you want a copy of the hardbound copy, you will pay about $49.95. Since I've always been paid for my poetry, I don't like the idea of me paying them to publish my work, if I want a copy of it. Also offered, are cups with your poetry on them, or it....stationery, and more gifts to give that make for one of a kind, thoughtful keepsakes. The gifts are really inexpensive for the quality that you get, and the shirts took less than 2 weeks to arrive by UPS. My sons both write poetry on this site. I had my other son's poem that I really like, "Who's The Beauty? Who's The Beast"...........put onto a shirt for him, also. He is very excited about it. It is very easy to use. You just have so many lines that may be used, and you decide when you want to have it put on line, for free. This way, I can see what my sons are writing, and they can see my stuff. . .although, we don't all live in the same area. Just click onto Poetry.com, put in the person's last name, then, first name.........and all they have written pops up! It is an ego builder, for sure, for those who have not had their works published. Ego building, in this way, is very positive, I think. I really recommend this site for all people who enjoy the written word in rhyme, or even, not in rhyme. Free flowing poetry is wonderful!  |
