Pros: Smells nice.
Cons: Does not release wrinkles.
The Bottom Line: This is what happens when a good idea goes wrong. While I hoped to never iron again, this product falls short.

Please release me, let me go
. Promise falls flat & wrinkled.
Downy Wrinkle Releaser is described on the downy.com as an easy-to-use spray that reduces wrinkles and helps keep your casual clothes looking neat without all the hassle of ironing. Its unique formula relaxes fabric fibers, helping to release wrinkles. Who wrote this stuff? It is touted as a product that leaves your clothes softer with no residue on dark fabrics. Well, I must be doing something wrong, because it doesnt work for me
.at all.
It is suggested that it is great on clothes right out of the dryer, closet or laundry basket. Now, puhlease! Most clothes right out of the dryer can be shaken or hand pressed without the aid of any product. Further suggestions include using on clothes that are creased by storage in your drawers, suitcase or gym locker. As the site continues to state Just spray, tug and smooth anytime you need to quickly reduce unsightly wrinkles
Well, I tried it all. I had clothes in the closet that had been hung so that you get those vertical creases caused by not getting it hanging straight in the closet. I followed the directions to the best of my abilities and I could not get the wrinkles to fall out. I also tried clothes from the laundry basket
.no luck. When I manage to catch my clothes fresh from the dryer, I dont need Downy Wrinkle Releaser because wrinkles can be hand pressed out at that time. The only positive experience was taking a blouse and skirt from the laundry basket that had dried too well before they were hung in the closet, spraying them gently and tossing them back in the dryer for a few minutes. Then it worked. I did get one T-shirt straight from the dryer that was already wrinkled, sprayed as directed and hand pressed and while it didnt get all the wrinkles out, it did improve them. The T-shirt, however, felt wet when I put it on and for quite awhile. I am not too fond of wearing damp clothes unless it just cant be avoided, such as rain and water rides.
The drying time is addressed on downy.com as follows:
Tips to Reduce Drying Time:
Treat clothes with Downy Wrinkle Releaser the night before you plan to wear them. By morning, they'll be dry and ready to wear.
Make sure you always check the garment care label first before applying any of the following quick-drying methods to your clothing.
Spray on garment and then tumble dry briefly (about 10 minutes) on low heat to help quickly de-wrinkle. Take the garment out immediately when tumbling is finished.
Use a hair dryer to quickly dry clothing you need to wear right away. Always check your care label first
Suggested uses are:
Around the House-using not only on clothes, but also linens, tablecloths, etc.
Travel-to smooth and freshen packed clothes.
Office-Freshen up for meetings, lunches, etc.
Gym-Freshen clothes left in gym lockers and bags.
Dorm-College students

Packaging
Downy Wrinkle Releaser comes in an attractive pearlized plastic bottle. It has a gun trigger action that works better than a lot of spray dispensers. There are only two settings, On & Off. The spray is a fine mist. It might work well to use when ironing, especially at a lower temperature. I havent tried that yet, but I might. I will say that the clothes I have sprayed were softer and smell nice. The bottles come in two sizes, 16.9 Fl Oz and 33.8 Fl Oz as well as two scents, light freshness and vibrant freshness. The bottle I purchased is the 16.9 fl oz (half a liter) and in the Light Freshness scent which smells, to me, like the regular scent of Downy. I have always liked the scent of Downy. It seems like a mixture of floral fragrances and the clean smell of detergent. It is really quite pleasant.
Directions For Use
1. Spray 8 inches away
2. Tug and Smooth away wrinkles
3. Hang dry
Spray fabrics with a sweeping motion until slightly damp. Use more spray for heavy fabrics or sever wrinkles. For a pressed look, spray fabrics while ironing.
NOTE: Safe on virtually all fabrics. On fabrics which may water-spot (silk, rayon), test a hidden area first. USE ONLY AS INTENDED. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Do not spray directly towards face. If eye contact occurs, rinse well with water.
Ingredients
Fiber relaxers, water, quality control agents and perfume. (Helpful, huh?)
Downy Wrinkle Releaser is a product of Procter & Gamble.
Final thoughts
While I found this product to be less than helpful, I experienced a twinge of guilt rereading what I had read. I did use Downy Wrinkle Releaser on several articles of clothing without being satisfied. I didnt feel like it did anything more than water in the same bottle would have done. My clothes were still wrinkled. I have done several T-shirts following the directions as shown above and the wrinkles did not change, much less disappear. I sprayed two pairs of jeans and absolutely saw no difference. Two blouses got the treatment without success. The last thing I used Downy Wrinkle Releaser on was another T-shirt that I need to wear at the time I pulled it out, the wrinkles were not quite as bad on this one, but it was fairly fresh from the dryer. However, the shirt was damp for quite awhile. The wrinkles did diminish as I went to my appointment and this shirt did lose more wrinkles before I arrived. I think that probably the body heat may have helped the process.
I have decided, however, than I will try to give it another try. I plan to, at least, try it while ironing. But, thats the very thing I wanted to avoid. I really do not expect my opinion to change as far as its effectiveness, but I hate to waste the product. If my opinion should change, I will update my review.
I would like to thank those who take the time to read, rate and comment in advance.
