Not exactly as advertised, but it does juice!

The Bottom Line: If you are willing to spend 5 minutes cleaning the machine after each use, it makes great juice.

I like juice. I don't like the price of fresh squeezed juice at a juice bar. So, for the same reasons I got an espresso maker (it paid for itself in three months of not going to Starbucks) I decided to get a juicer.
I learned from friends that the Juiceman series was not as advertised. Other machines (Krupps, Malone) were way out of my price range.
Last week they the were giving out samples at the local Bed Bath and Beyond. I watched the lady make the juice, I drank the juice, it was good! Armed with my 20% off coupon, and knowing that BB&B has a great return policy, I bought the Jack Lalanne juicer.
The good:
- It makes great juice.
- It is quiet compared to most juicers I've been around
- Yes, you can put in a whole (small) apple
The (not seriously) bad:
- Don't believe the informercial. Easy to clean, well, yes, but very time consuming! Lots to take apart, and although all you have to do is rinse, you have to rinse 8 separate parts!
- You have to have a special tool to remove the juicing blade. This is a pain to reinstall.
- Although the informercial claims you don't need to peel anything, you really do. You have to peel oranges, pineapples, grapefruit, mangoes, and other fruits or you will get a sour taste. Just like to have to with every other juicer out there.
Overall, it is a good juicer. However, one may not juice very often because of time it takes to clean the parts. The directions say that the washable parts are dishwasher safe, but if the basket or blade gets bent, your juicer is dead. I would hand wash those parts always, and put the pulp basket and other parts in the dishwasher.
If you have the time to clean up afterward, I would recommend this juicer. If you don't have the time to clean a juicer every time you use it, then stick to the juice bar or store bought stuff.
