One of my very best forever friends was also my roomie for several months when he had no other place to go, and that was Mark!
He stayed in my apartment with me for almost a year, and we're friends to this day!
Of course, we were also friends before I invited him to stay with me, so that made a big difference! :o)

I like your idea about getting a second job instead of a roommate. Obviously that's not the best choice for everyone, but to me, the joys of being free of roommate hassles are worth the extra hours of working. Good luck!...Mark

I've been thinking for a few days about my roommate luck. I have to give Julie her 30 day notice on Friday and I think I'll look into getting a second job before getting another roommate.

...I don't have to go through that any more. I had a college roommate (although our rooms at college were actually two rooms with a connecting door), and we couldn't get along.
We had rented a little fridge at the beginning of the year together, then I got a coffee maker and toaster. She let everyone use the fridge (which would have been fine, but there was little room for my stuff, and some people wouldn't use what was in there. It would stink after a while) and my appliances, but never returned the favour. She accused me of all sorts of unsavory things. She moved out, finally and thankfully.
I hope you are able to kick your current roommate out, for both your and your daughter's sake. I have a daughter myself, and I know I could not put up with the behaviour you are having to put up with!

Ask for permission to check their credit report. Credit reports are a good indication if a person will pay or can pay their bills on time.

she was ok....had some tape soreness and her jaw hurt from the cloth stuffed in there...but other than that everything was peachy :) no one likes to be tied up...(well, some do, but not her)

OMG.. that is HORRIBLE. I hope that she was allright thorugh all of that. I am very thankfull that none of my roommate situations have resorted to phsyical fighting so far.

my oldest sister had lots of roommate trouble, and they even got into a few physical fights...the worst time was when the roommates' sorority sisters broke in and tied my sister to a chair and gagged her mouth with tape....be thankful nothing like that happened to you (or has it?)

Oh Boy, I couldnt handle that. I cant stand cockiness and concieted people.
I agree about the friend thing too. When you see each other night and day things begin to get irritating :o)

Thank you for sharing your helpful tips, and stories-entertaining for us, hell for you, I'm sure.
I've also had my share of bad roomates-one who you couldn't have a decent conversation with because she was always talking about how beautiful she was, and how her boyfriend says she's sooo good in bed...la dee dah da...and she talked loudly on the phone all hours of the night!
And another tip-don't room with someone who's a close friend because most chances are you won't be for long! Trust me!!
