| Tyger13's Full Review: Shields Up |
Mr. Gibson runs a website crammed to the virtual rafters with useful utilities and information. Utilities to check your computer to see if you've got any ports hanging open waiting for hAx0r-d00dz to come in and mangle your system, information on how spyware software works and what programs, like RealDownload, Netscape and Netzip, spy on you and report what you do to the companies. And how to stop this. Utilities to keep an eye on your hard drives and let you know of impending disaster, or help you to recover afterward.
And all of this for free. Not even popup windows, the shouting used-car salesmen of the internet.
Update, 08Aug01: Ok, maybe I took things a little too much at face value. You might want to take a look at
http://www.grcsucks.com/shieldsup.html for the other side of the story. On one of the newsgroups I read, someone who is a security geek expressed disdain for Mr. Gibson. In light of that, I'm changing my rating from 5 to 3.
