This PC camera is an excellent buy overall.
I had no trouble setting it up although I am a very adept electronics user and don't have trouble with much. I'd guess people I know with rudamentary computer/electronics knowledge could set it up easily. It is USB, which means a trained money could plug it in and the CD install was easy as any software install could and should be.
I have had no driver or display trouble with it either.
I gives a clear picture that can be tranmitted via a chat. It can also be used to make a video or take photos really well.
The length of the cord is exceptional so you can really get good shots around a room and move this thing a bit without having trouble with cord length.
The software it comes with is amazing. It can be used to make home videos, to compile multiple scenes with fade ins and dissolves. It can put photos into a video. It also has a program that will build your own video or photo email postcard. It lets you put in the text and attach a photo or video to the email. It then packages it in an executable (.exe) which, if you don't know, means when the recipient gets it, they just open the email attachment and it plays itself out automatically so even a novice could open and get the message. In short, it is great software.
The camera lets you decide how large you want your recording dimensions to be in an effort to minimize file size. Larger dimensions = larger files.
It also has a nice base which you can stick anywhere. I have a desk with a shelf over the base of the desk and my monitor is under the shelf. I stuck the base upside down on the bottom side of my shelf so the camera is at my heads level at the computer. I then went into the preferences in the software and had the picture inverted so although the camera is upside down, the picture comes out normal. NICE!
I got this at auction on eBay or Yahoo! for 30 bucks I think. It was exceptional.
It has a video in option so you can put a video from your TV and run it through this to record video. If you took an audio cord and stuck it in your video card, you could record TV or DVD or VHS on your PC although the file size would be silly big at any dimensions.
I had a PC camera I got last year that isn't close to this camera too. At the time, my other one was OK, but I think webcams have improved a lot in 1 year. I haven't used the Longitech (sp?) PC camera I seem to see a lot, but I don't see any reason why it would be better than this one. Read up and review them both if you are in the market. Put me down for this one though.
No complaints, no problems, all good things to say about this guy.
