rick_peddler, welcome to epinions; glad to have you here contributing to epinions.
That said, I wonder if these three factors are the only things that I need to consider when choosing a MD player? If I have an optical output, can run on AA batteries and have a headphone output larger than 3mW, does that mean that will I be happy with what I buy? For some reason I think that there is more to consider than just those three things.
Also, you mentioned the Sony MD-R900, but didn't specify why it the best there is at the moment. Does it have all three of this characteristics? This isn't expressly listed.

Short, but filled with useful content. Defy the trend of ever lengthening reviews, which have their place but shouldn't be necessary to merit a VH. Keep it up.
