A funny thing happened on my way to pick up my new Kia. As I was leaving my office a co-worker said to me, "Where are you going in such a hurry?"
"Got to pick up my new car!" I said.
"Wow, what is it?" she said
"Kia Sorento."
"Oh," she said. Now, this was a kind of muted "oh", not the upbeat kind of "oh!" you'd hope someone would say if you told them you were going to pick up your new car.
"Why, what's up, you sound funny..." I said.
"Nothing, just . . .well, my husband works at Kia," she said.
"And . . ."
"And, you know, they have a really terrible reliability record, that's why they have to give such a great warranty...to reassure people."
Well, how to bring a guy down about his new car choice, right?
Luckily, here I am, 6 months later. A happy Kia Sorento owner.
Has the car been without problems? No. It developed a mystery emission system fault which caused the engine warning light to come on now and then. I never noted any deterioration in performance though I had to take the car in three times before Kia isolated the problem. But hey, it's a new car and this is the only problem I have had in half a year.
And I am qualified to also review Kia's service and support, which I'd give a top character. Of course this might vary from dealer to dealer, but they were concerned, efficient, helpful, proactive about following up and making sure the car was still running well and when they couldn't isolate the issue immediately, they called in technical help from a visiting Kia Korea technician.
You can read in other reviews more in depth details of the vehicles specs and performance, but the purpose of this review is to give an insight into reliability and service.
