I ordered a SONY DVD-ROM drive from Compuvest about two weeks ago, without ever having heard of this company before. My experiences with internet orders from unknown companies had always been good before, so I made my purchase with little concern.
But I have to admit, I started getting very nervous when I still hadn't received my product 10 days later, and I began reading other shoppers reviews of Compuvest. Many of these reviews were the absolute worst you could give an e-tailer, including sending used and refurbished merchandise, zero customer service, bait & switch tactics, etc.
It was at that point I began seriously considering cancelling the order, and just going down the street to my local Best Buy and paying the extra cash for the luxury of knowing exactly what I was getting.
So I called Compuvest, but all I got was a recorded voice in a foreign accent saying "Sorry we missed your call", and instructing me to leave a message. They'd get back to me in 30 minutes. I did. They didn't.
More nervousness. I was sure I had gotten taken in by some crooks, and was almost hoping my product never arrived so I could request a refund from my credit card company for non-delivery.
But a couple of days later I called again, and, of course, got the same recording. I again left a phone message asking them to call me.
Miraculously, within an hour, UPS delivered my DVD-ROM drive, and I got an e-mail from Compuvest giving me the tracking number (which never did appear on their Order Status page, as it was supposed to).
The product itself was basically just packed in bubble-wrap. No retail box, no literature on installation, etc.
But the drive appeared to be factory fresh, at least to the naked eye, and worked flawlessly when installed.
Maybe I just dodged a bullet with this outfit, or maybe it's not a bad shop after all. I don't know, but I don't think I'll order from Compuvest again.
