Give them an inch, they'll give you miles!

The Bottom Line Shower them, Feed Them and They will reap a good harvest!
When buying a pair of soccer cleats, you should be prepared for the care involved with them. If you buy synthetic leather cleats, my advice really won't help you, but if you buy kangaroo leather or regular leather cleats, then listen up.
As hard as you try to find the pair that fits your foot, you can always get it a little better. Wear they in the shower when you first get them. Then let them air dry, or place a newspaper inside to help them dry. DO NOT PLACE NEAR HOT AIR SOURCE. The leather will crack and wear down quicker.
Feed your shoes! There are many products out there to condition leather. A favorite of mine is "Leather Food." It's an oily base that you should spread on your shoes before practice, or game. Don't worry about putting too much on, let it wear off during the game or practice. I'd say once a week should be fine.
If you buy detachables (cleats with screw-ins) take the screw-ins out after you use the cleats. I made the mistake of storing them with the screws in and now the bottom of the cleat is deformed. I can't even get the cleats to screw in all the way on some.
If you tend to wear down a certain part of the shoe more than another part, go to a shoe repair guy. I always cut hard on my right side; my right shoe always got a hole on the top outside part. It's a lot cheaper to have that patched than it is to buy a new pair. Beside, these cleats are already formed to your feet.
As long as you treat your cleats with care, they should last you at least two years ( that's about four seasons for those who play in the spring and fall).
A side note, I own two pairs: my detachables for the rainy weather and my regular cleats for the rest of the weather. Both pairs will last longer, and you have better control then for different surfaces.
You run about five miles per game, why not give your feet a comfortable and durable shoe!
**Screw-ins are legal as long as you do not sharpen the cleats to a point. The Ref's will check!!!
