This is a great little firewall to protect yourself!

The Bottom Line: If you need protection from hackers and unauthorized connections then this is for you! It will block the bad things and allow you to choose what to block there after.

When I first received a Norton's Internet Security CD, I was thinking what can this do better then the firewall hardware we use on our current networks? So to test and see how good this software was and to see what the hype was about, we connected a web server hosting a few dating sites of ours to the network. We made sure it was not hooked in to our firewall box, but directly to the unprotected hub. We wanted to see how reliable this program can be. Once we installed it, pop-ups of applications trying to access the net started popping up, which is normal for the server's IIS, and OS to access. We set those to permit always so it will always allow these programs to access the net and we let the system run... A few days later we came back to check on it and to our surprise it was telling us how many hack attempts we had, how many virus connection attempts, and how many times it blocked port scans by IP. We tested the port blocking feature and had a few people here try to port scan the server which Norton's blocked their IP, very nice feature! We did notice it took up a lot of resources though which our server was not really effected since they are fully packed with memory and processing power, but for those who have basic servers or computers this might be an issue. We also installed it on an alienware laptop to test it for our personal use and it worked the same except we had issues using outlook. Sometimes it would hang on a email scan. Probably due to the AntiSpam program built into it. If we stopped the NIS software and hit the email send/receive with the NIS software turned off it would get the emails quickly. But this happened a few times not always. this is still a great program to use to protect yourself if you can't afford a hardware firewall box. So we rate this program 4 out of 1 stars for its reliability to block, specially on a server.
