The Jack LaLanne Power Juicer is terrific. I use mine almost every day. It's easy and I like how I can put most fruit in whole without having to cut or peel. Apples, kiwi, grapes with or without seeds, and strawberries are just a few. Personally, I just use fruit in my juicer, but it's also made for juicing veggies such as tomatoes, celery, and carrots.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Oranges, lemons, and limes must be peeled to avoid bitter-tasting juice. Bananas and avocados can't be used at all because they're too mushy and can gum up the blade - instead, just put them in a blender and add juice. Also remove large pits from fruits such as cherries and peaches to avoid dulling juicer's blade.
Juicer works best when you alternate soft fruits/veggies with harder ones. For instance, my daughter loves apple grape juice. We put the grapes in first and then the apples. I have noticed that when juicing for more than 2 people, the blade tends to gets bogged down. Simply unplug machine and dump out excess pulp, then resume juicing.
My juicer came with a recipe/idea book, which I used at first. Now I just make up my own combinations. One of my favorites is strawberry-peach. I've also made enough orange juice that I can tell you it usually takes 2 medium-sized oranges for 8oz of juice. The machine takes the fruits whole, but try to stick with small or medium-sized fruit; otherwise, you may have to do some cutting.
CLEANING
The only thing they could do to improve the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer is to make it self-cleaning. I never juice unless I'm sure I have the time to take it apart and rinse it right away. If you let the fruit and juice dry on, it's a bear to get off.
TASTE
As for the taste of the juice, it's 10 times better than the stuff you buy in the store. It's fresh and has a frothy/smooth texture. My 4-year-old prefers it over canned juice. I've also been able to get her to try a variety of fruits this way. She loves to help.
COST
As for the price, I paid about $130. It was more money than I wanted to spend, but I do think it's worth it. Don't think that juicing will save you money though. A carton of orange juice runs about $2.50 and has 8 (8oz) servings, but a $2.50 bag of oranges will probably only make 5 (8ox) servings of juice. I do try to buy fruits in bulk when they're in season so I can save a little.
WHY BUY?
The main reason for buying this juicer was because I wanted fresh juice without preservatives and fresh juice also has more vitamins than store-bought. When you juice, you drink the juice right away while it still has a high-vitamin content. The longer juice sits, the more vitamins it loses.
WHAT MAKES THE JACK LALANNE POWER JUICER SUPERIOR?
It's one of the only juicers that take fruit whole. With most other juicers, you're stuck peeling and chopping fruit ahead of time.
The Power Juicer also prides itself on maximum output of juice. While it's hard to compare since I've never had a juicer before, my mother-in-law tells me that she quit using her ordinary juicer because it took so much fruit/veggies to make just 1 serving of juice.
IN CONCLUSION
If you're in the market for a juicer, I would highly recommend the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer. For more information, logon to www.jacklalanne.com.
