I did cover one of DJ Craze's many side projects, Ko Wreck Technique a while back, but haven't gotten around to reviewing any of the others...

I agree. I wanted to go into more depth with all the elements, but I decided that quick definitions for the more familiar elemnts would be best.

You could always write an essay on it in Up and Coming Hip-Hop and R&B artists or somewhere else here. I know I'd read it. -mad

This was a great write-off... (Reply to this comment)

And you did a phenomenal job organizing it.

I was disappointed by the lack of coverage on turntabilism which I consider a huge part of hip-hop nowadays, and not just a competition thing. Qbert, Craze, Mr. Dibbs and Rob Swift are all pushing the boundaries and creating amazing music at the same time. I also think that the underground scene is really, really strong and people like Dose One, Slug and Eye-dea are creating amazing music and furthering the scope of hip-hop to new and interesting areas.

Either way, this was a great and informative read.

Usually when I write about hip-hop, I assume that my readers are going to have a certain amount of knowledge about it, so it's nice to have a piece which so clearly and passionately outlines hip-hop culture for those who didn't grow up with it like I did.

I've been working at getting my dad to read Hip Hop America by Nelson George for about 8 months now--he's a Jr. High School Principal down here in Southern Cali. I truly believe a better understanding of hip-hop will lead him to a better understanding of youth today--something that's always desperately needed. Just like the hippies were the first generation to have grown up with rock & roll in their hearts, we're the first to grow up with hip-hop.

I suppose I should save this all for my submission, huh?

I also wanted to thank you for getting me in on this Write-Off and making me examine exactly why I hold hip-hop so close to my heart--which, I think, seems like an anominaly to many of my friends and readers here. Anyway, it's something I've needed to do for a while. (I'll be posting later tonight.)

Thanks again. Much luv.

...an ongoing education. What is so successful about this is the bridgebuilding aspect: people really can come together. They just have to choose to do it. I think a lot of people will see Hip-Hop differently, as I have, thanks to your work. Been looking forward to this writeoff ever since you first mentioned it to me.

Thanks! I haven't heard a lot of French rap, but everytime I went to that site, it they had some excellent articles and other pieces there. My French skills have almost disappeared since High School but I can glean enough to see that they hava a serious Hip-Hop scene over there. Also, The Source magazine recently did a small piece on French graf writers that was interesting. -mad

I was pleased to see a French site on your list of hip hop information places - I firmly believe French Hip-Hop music's about as good as it gets, with its strong Algerian and Moroccan influences.
