Top 10 Christmas Movies
May 14 '01
The Bottom Line Classics never die; animation is cool; music is a definite plus.
These are what I think the top 10 Christmas movies are but they aren’t in any particular order because I couldn’t decide between some of them.
10. All I Want for Christmas - Okay, this isn’t too well-known but it’s a sweet movie about two kids who only want their divorced parents to get back together.
9. The Grinch that Stole Christmas - I haven’t seen the live action version but if it’s anything like the cartoon, it’ll be here so take your pick which of the two this is. You can’t go wrong with Dr.Seuss.
8. The Toy that Saved Christmas - Veggie Tales rule! A toy named Buzzsaw Louie, Junior Asparagus and the gang search for the true meaning of Christmas.
7. Claymation Christmas - I’m not even sure if this is out on video anymore but it was one of the best Christmas specials I saw when I was little. Christmas carols sung by various claymation people, animals, etc. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer by the California Raisens and We Three Kings by camels are still what I think of when I hear these songs.
6. Charlie Brown Christmas - Charles Schultz, another one who you can’t go wrong with. Linus’s telling of the Christmas story and the part where Charlie Brown brings the tree to his friends are great.
5. White Christmas - Great old classic. Wonderful music, cute plot, great actors. Bing Crosby, Danny K and Rosemary Clooney, what else do you need?
4. A Muppet Christmas Carol - Kermit the Frog as Bob Crachit, narrated by Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat. Nothing is taken away from this classic story by the inclusion of muppets. It’s one of the best versions I’ve seen.
3. Scrooged - The other best version of A Christmas Carol, starring Billy Murray, Karen Allen, Carol Kane and Benico del Torro (bet you didn’t know he was the cab driver/Ghost of Christmas Past). A modern day Scrooge gets visited by three ghosts. Funny and heartwarming.
2. The Santa Clause - A father accidently becomes Santa Clause is cute enough but when that father is Tim Allen, things get crazy. The movie is both charming and sweet.
1. It’s a Wonderful Life - You knew this had to be in there. Jimmy Stewart, a hard working man who never gets a break, sees what his world would have been like if he’d never been born.
