Is that you're PDA or are you just happy to see me?

Pros:Free, Offline Browsing, and Ease of Use
Cons:"Space Hog" for some. My PDA case barely fits in pocket..
The Bottom Line: If you have the space on your PDA and would like the ability to browse offline, this is a definite must!

After my experiences with the original Pilot by 3COM and finally my new experience with the Handspring Visor Edge, that I just recieved, I have to say one thing. I don't think my pockets are big enough. But thats another story, which involves clothes shopping, and I'll probably write an essay on that later, but for now I'll talk about the software "Avantgo", which can be stored on your mobile device (PDA or Wire-less Enabled Cellular Phone) [This opinion will describe the PDA - offline browsing ability]. Unfortunately I cannot pull money out from a magical source and buy everything I want, like a house, car, electronics, etc.. If I had that ability, I wouldn't be here, I'd probably be on the beach tanning away. Thus I have no wire-less connection on my Visor Edge. After browsing the web, I discovered Avantgo.

Install:
The same day that I had recieved my Visor Edge, I had installed Avantgo thirty minutes later. The instruction were easy, clear, and simple enough for a child to understand. Creating, removing, and customizing channels was also a breeze through Avantgo. Two short downloads (I have aDSL), picking through the wide variety of channels, and pushing the hotsync button on my docking bay was generally my procedure. No huge obstacles to do, it didn't ask me for my blood-type, blood alcohol content (Al-Cah-Hol for those who drink and surf), and answer to the question "What is life". Just a simple one page form. Easy enough! You can also customize each individual channel to set when a specific sync should grab updated web pages, so that not every sync grabs new pages (time effective).

Usage:
It was interesting that I could customize my.yahoo account so I could have my.yahoo channel display personalized content, like local movie showtimes, local weather, and stock portfolios. Another useful implementation in Avantgo is the ability to "create" your own custom channel. So in essence, you browse your website offline if you really wanted to, or you can connect to other mobile sites not directly affiliated with Avantgo, like www.TheOnion.com. (mobile.theonion.com) Although this software program did not satisfy all my browsing needs on the PDA device, it met my demands. I could still read "somewhat up-to-date" news reels and catch up on my "edu-mucation" while away. One thing that may annoy some users is that in order to get "somewhat up-to-date" information, it is best for you to sync your PDA atleast once a day. Yes, that means getting off your couch and just sliding it into the docking bay, and pressing ONE button! You know what? If you are really that lazy, I'll start my own $29.99 Online Sync-ing service and you can mail your PDA to me, I'll hit that button for you, then send it all the way back for you ten days later. That sound good?
