An old fridge might not be worth it (Reply to this comment)
by ccrrccrr
I looked up this review because I'm considering repainting the ugly 1970s range that was in my house when I moved in. I can't see spending $500 for a new one when there's really nothing better about the new one, other than looks.
But a refrigerator is a different story--energy efficiency of fridges has gotten better by more than a factor of three since the 1970s--probably more since the '50s. A typical 1970s fridge uses about 1800 kWh/year, which could cost you hundreds of dollars every year. Even if it's only for your garage, buying a new, basic, energy star-rated fridge is easily worth it.
It might seem like you are saving hundreds of dollars by buying a few cheap cans of paint instead of a fridge, but over a few years you are spending a lot more than that on power.
But that aside, I appreciate the helpful review, and will go get some for my range!

Will it cover the avocado? (Reply to this comment)

I've been looking for something to paint my ugly avocado dryer. The dryer works great but is very ugly!! Do you think that this appliance paint will cover it? Does the paint recommend priming first? I'm so glad to have found a review for an appliance paint.
I'm glad you told us how you did the job! Nice review!

The paint sounds good... (Reply to this comment)

But that Hotpoint is incredible! I thought we were doing great with our appliances(19 years for our Tappan double oven) but 54 years of faithful service... I suppose it deserved a coat of paint.
