Explanation of My Rating... (Reply to this comment)
by three_ster
In a category asking for a list of 10, I would have to say that 3 out of 10 garners a Somewhat Helpful rating. If you end up coming back and updating your review, please let me know, as I would love to take another look.

Old animes... (Reply to this comment)
by saturn_169
In most articles there is no mention of the newer anime series that have recently been dubbed and sold in the U.S. such as, Slayers and Ranma. Most animes that I read about, like Ghost in the Shell, have been around since I was a little girl. Also, the animes most people enjoy more are the cheap ones. Are these animes simply classics? or Are they just the most easy ones to come by?

My bro-in-law has the DVD of Princess Mononoke. I saw the first 15 or 20 minutes and had to leave (because I was on someone else's schedule)!
EEGADS!
I must see the whole thing.
Years ago, I saw The Vampire Hunter D and loved it.

On the contrary, I am proud of myself that I found such a great picture to put there. Had I put my own picture there, I would only hope for an SH from you ;)

Record of Lodoss War is probably the only Tolkienesque anime worth watching. Unfortunately, it's being sold in series; the DVDs ranging from $50 to slightly over $100, which means writing a lot of reviews here before I can buy one :)

Having no opinion at all (Reply to this comment)
by mcgina
on these movies or on anime in general, plus being a bit pre-menstrual today, I wavered between the H and the VH for quite some time in rating this. But I could not resist the dashing smile and the glorious mountains in your picture. Do you feel cheapened, now that your looks have bought you better ratings?
just teasing,

I like Princess Mononoke (Reply to this comment)
by stormwolf17
but as of yet, I've not been able to see Ninja Scroll, or the others you mentioned. I'm not that big on Japanime, and only watch certain series. Such as the Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, and Outlaw Star. I've seen some Tenchi's but that's about it. Someone recommended to me Record of Lodoss Wars.. so I'm going to try and check that out asap. Oh, and by the way, great review!

Thanks for pointing that out. I haven't mentioned those because my first requirement was availability, preferably on DVD. A person wishing to start experiencing Anime should go to the local Best Buy and buy a DVD, and these three are the best ones widely available.

AKIRA, a total masterpiece by Otomo. It easily tops all the videos on this chart.

A good article... (Reply to this comment)
by yusakugo
although I rated you VH, I only agree with Princess Mononoke on your top three list. Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell don't rank so highly on my lists. I like Ninja Scroll and was lukewarm to its sequel... but I don't feel it is essential viewing. Ghost in the Shell is one of the firsts with mixing computer animation and traditional cel art... but the movie seemed more like eye candy for a single viewing. Princess Mononoke is a definite must see on my list since it is shows the true power of animation as a story telling form and as an art form.
Regardless, these are strictly my opinions on anime movies that obviously most people may not share.
