Barnes & Noble: Not the Best On- Line Book Store, but it Works
by Bryan_Carey | Jul 26 '04
Barnes & Noble is probably the most recognized name in books, with book stores in most every medium to large city across the United States. These physical location stores are clean and well- stocked and they have elevated Barnes & Noble to the top of the ...

Don't order on line! (Reply to this comment)

I agree with the previous post. The stores are great, but DON'T order on line. I placed a single order which included a textbook and a regular book with the free standard shipping and they claimed it would take 3-9 business days to receive once it was shipped. They shipped the regular book via UPS ground and I had it in my hands in less than a week. For the textbook, however, they used something called DHL Global Mail with a tracking number. The DHL tracking link shows it took DHL 7 days to get it from TN to FL at which point they turned it in to the US Postal Service bulk mail facility about 60 miles from my home. They provided a USPS track & delivery confirmation number, but when I attempt to check on it, the USPS web site shows no record found. I have since learned from the Post Office that those USPS delivery confirmation numbers have to be entered into their system at a Post Office window and when a secondary carrier such as DHL turns it over to them "midstream" those numbers are useless as the mail sorting facilities do not go back and enter(scan) the numbers into the USPS system. Thus the post office can't track the package and DHL says they have finished their part of the process. Barnes & Noble shows they shipped the book 08/31 and as of 09/14 it still has not been received and while Barnes & Noble's rep told me the LATEST I should have received this package was 09/11, I have to wait 1 more week before I can make a claim to them that it is lost. Meanwhile my son cannot do his assignments without the textbook and college professors don't want to hear excuses for not having the textbook. This is a ridiculous shipping method and I can't figure out why Barnes & Noble would use 2 different shipping methods for the same order all of which were supposed to be free standard shipping. They need to ditch DHL and stick to UPS!!!!!!!

Barnes and Noble: crappiness (Reply to this comment)

Dear All,
Since many of you have busy lives and lots of online shopping to do, I hope that this helps you out. Do not, ever, use Barnes and Noble as your online shopping choice. I, for one, actually love their stores but their online shipping services leave a lot, and I mean a lot, to be desired. I ordered about 60 dollars worth of items and chose the Fast and Free delivery service. Big mistake. When they say that items are usually shipped out within 24 hours, do not believe it. If you group your items together, which you HAVE to do to get the FAST and FREE delivery, you will probably end up AT LEAST waiting for two days just for them to ship it out. From there on, you will wait at minimum of 5 days waiting for your item. So, let's recap. 7 DAYS AT LEAST waiting for your delivery. Ships within 24 hours my behind.
In addition, not only is it slow, but shopping online at Barnes and Noble is expensive as well. If you choose to shop on their website, you will end up paying at least double the price that you will get on Amazon.com.
So, in conclusion, shop Amazon.com. Do not shop Barnes and Noble, at least not online. Don't get me wrong, I love the Barnes and Noble stores. But do not, on your life, shop online at their website.
Believe me, I am doing you a HUGE favor.
Peace out.
