| rockyabq's Full Review: Sony Clie PEG-TJ25 Handheld |
I found a TJ25 at Costco for $99.97 to replace my aging SJ20. Couldn't pass it up at that price. I use a PDA primarily for reading ebooks. It's fantastic to be able to have whatever you're reading with you at all times. Most of the Pros and Cons listed under the headings are in comparison to the replaced Sony Clie' SJ20.
You'd think by the number of Cons compared to the Pros, that I'm dissatisfied with the new one. Not the case. Most of the Cons are minor and I'm getting used to the change (I'd used the SJ20 a LOT and I really loved it).
The SJ20 would take 20 or 30 seconds to delete a book from the Memory Stick when I was done reading it. The TJ25 takes about 3 seconds.
I use an abbreviated encyclopedia on the TJ25 that's in 4 parts, but each is quite large (each part is about the same size as 5 lengthy novels combined). The SJ20 wouldn't even begin to navigate thru the parts or search for specific entries. It'd hang and require a soft reset. The TJ25 handles it without blinking.
Overall, I'm very happy with the trade-offs.
My original "Cons" went way over 15 words, so here they are:
Cover kept coming off repeatedly until I used silicone sealant on it, Memory stick pops out occasionally when in my pocket, Collapsing stylus is more a pain that a full-sized one, Jog dial was handier on the side, Cover was less "in the way" when it flipped over the top, Had to re-learn some Graffiti letter and procedures, Stylus doesn't "click" in place and can work its way partly out if it hangs on something in your pocket
