I bought this projector around November 2003 and could not be happier with it. It is projected on a 7 foot by 8 foot homemade frame built from 1x3 pieces of wood and stretched muslin fabric which was primed and painted a few times with a flat white paint. I have since obtained an actual projector screen and quite honestly, the picture is not that much better. So for around $45 you can build your own screen, or spend whatever it costs to get a "real" screen.
But back to the projector, my display is approximately 10' diagonal; and movies, tv, HDTV, computer, and video games all look great on it. I have an HDTV tuner since I abhor cable, and the HDTV display looks better than I had expected. Watching the NBA playoffs on local channel 7 HDTV (Detroit) was absolutely great! It was so good that for game 5 I took the projector outside, displayed it on the side of my aluminum-sided garage, and had a championship party with about a 25' diagonal HDTV image! Friends and family wouldn't stop telling their friends (who didn't come) about the whole experience and image for about a month after the game was over.
I have all of my video components going through a Denon receiver, with S-video and component out. I am looking to purchase a new component cable (I'm using the one that came with the DVD player right now). But there is a noticeable difference between the S-video cable and the component video coming out of the DVD player. I have the Component cable for my Nintendo Gamecube and again, the difference between component and composite (the yellow plug) is night and day, drop the extra money and make sure anything you put through this projector is component, you will have to get the adapter (I purchased mine on the Infocus website), but it is like $10 and worth every penny. Also, I had a homemade projector mount when I first purchased it but then bought the ceiling mount. I would strongly recommend the ceiling mount offered by infocus, it is totally solid and works just great in my basement with exposed ceiling joists, it can be set up with drywall or wall-mounted as well if you need to. I'm sure in the next couple years when my brother buys a house I will be passing my X1 on to him and I will upgrade to a higher resolution projector, but I wouldn't even mind if I kept it either, I could not be happier. The size is just right, it comes with a carrying bag and computer cable, it is extremely easy to use and set up and is very versatile. A in my book!
