Blazing fast graphics.
Written: Mar 26 '01
Pros:blazing speed in games, 3d rendering, great video capture (full screen!), and 3d glasses!
Cons:not as fast as an Ultra, but then again it costs $250 less.
The Bottom Line: Blazing fast graphics, flawless video capture.
When I was putting together my 1ghz mother of all computers, I had a tough decision as to what video card to put in. There was the GeForce2, the Radeon, or I could've waited 2 months and got the GeForce Ultra. The ultra cost twice as much as any of the other cards, so it was ruled out right away. I decided on the GeForce because it outperformed the Radeon cards.
Which GeForce?
It seems that every video card maker has come out with a GeForce 2 model. The only real differences are between 32 and 64 mb of DDRAM. I did some research and found out that there was basically no difference - only about 5 frames/sec in Quake 3. So I decided on the 32meg model, as it was $100 cheaper. There were still many models to choose from, but i picked the Asus 7700 Deluxe, because it had video capture and "3d" glasses.
The video capture is great!
Despite what the morons on epinions say, the video capture is excellent. The software is very simplified, so go out and buy some expensive software if you must, but the Asus software is very easy to use, so I wouldn't bother with the $500 video recording software from CompUSA. Now, contrary to some moron named charlie on epinions, you can do video capture at any resolution, even FULL SCREEN. Now to do this at a perfectly smooth 30fps, you better have a fast hard drive. But then again why buy a top of the line video card if the rest of your computer is a pos.
Asus 7700 Deluxe is a great card
So go pick one up. Faster frame rates than everything but the Ultra (Theres even a 64meg Asus out now, if you really need those extra 5fps), and great video capture.
