A Pulling Machine :)

Pros: Towing capabilities, ride, leather quality, electronics.
Cons: GAS HOG
The Bottom Line: Best towing SUV out there for the money (as long as you can still get the large rebates)

I was looking for a good pulling vehicle for a heavy boat (4500#) I narrowed down my selection to the Toyota Sequoia and the Tahoe. I usually will pay extra for the usually superior workmanship and durability of the foreign vehicles but I figured I give the Tahoe a look. I think that foreign competition has lit a fire under Chevy because the 2004 Tahoe is 200% better than the 1999 Tahoe I previously considered. After the tremendous rebates and dealers that were trying to give them away, I went with the 2004 Z71 4WD Tahoe. I figure if I have major problems with the Tahoe, I'd be getting it for $5K - $8K cheaper than the loaded Sequoia and it would be worth the risk. The ride, engine, build quality, leather and ergonomics of the Tahoe are all vastly improved. I still have an issue with the GM cheapo plastic dashes, they really need to look at the Lexus interiors and go to school on them. I pulled a 6000# boat around Florida for a few days and was very pleased. I hardly knew the boat was back there. I read on other forums that people felt a little bit of wiggling when pulling trailers. If you inflate the tires to the recommended values, you will feel a wiggle. If you inflate them to around 40psi, the wiggle is gone and the ride is still comfortable. Any other "wiggle" issues must be from improperly balanced trailers or aerodynamic issues with the trailer. All I can say is that I have no complaints at all with the towing capabilities of this vehicle. I am also very pleased with all the electronics (XM, OnStar, Bose Stereo, Memory Seats, you name it) After driving this SUV for 2000 miles and then getting in my 97' Ford Exploder, you get an appreciation for how far Chevy has come. I got 16 MPG going 80 to 85 mph and 17.5 MPG going 70 to 75MPH. I made a good buy :)
