Pros: A wonderful way to check out music before you spend money on it.
Cons: Being abused
The Bottom Line: The bottom line is leave Napster and it's users alone. In the big picture Napster is helping the music industry in more ways than it is hurting it.

| Mary0104's Full Review: Napster |
Napster has been in the news headlines for a while now and through all of the media hype and mass e-mails that have been sent out on the subject I still don't think most people understand the true reason Napster exists. I don't believe that the creator of the program sat down one day and decided to destroy the money making part of the music industry. He wanted to help people have more of an educated decision when they went into a record store to purchase music. He wanted to help people see that there is more out there in the music world than what many music stores offer the public. I think he just wanted to share his love of music with the rest of the world.
Critics will forever bash Napster because it's 'stealing the big bucks from John Doe Smith' but I honestly don't think most people are using Napster for the wrong reasons. Sure there are going to be some abusers but that is true to life in any situation. I download songs from Napster but that does not stop me from going out and buying the album as well. If I like the songs I hear once I download them, it makes me more likely to want to go out and spend money on the CD. I don't want to buy a CD with only one good song. I want to know I'm going to like the rest as well.
Perhaps in a few years some of the money hungry people will be able to look back and say despite it all Napster helped boost my record sales. I got some new fans because of Napster. Will they then go to the gentleman that made it all possible and tell him thank you? Somehow I doubt it but this is a world full of possbilies and so one never can tell.
