How To Order Coffee in Portugal (Reply to this comment)

"Oh, in some places, people refer to it as a Bica".
Hi, abou your article, just wanted to say a couple of things.
In Lisbon, you usually ask for a café or a bica. Bica means, legend says, "Beba Isto Com Açucar", meaning "drink this with sugar". When coffee first appearead in Portugal, people didn't like it's taste. Then, one day, one coffee-shop owner put an ad outside its shop saying " Beba Isto Com Açucar". From that day on, coffee was know as bica almost everywhere in Portugal, .
In Porto, in the north of Portugal, the first espresso coffee machine was one of a italian manufacturer named Simbali, so coffee in Porto is known as a "Simbalino".
If you ask for a "Pingado" or "Pingo", you'll be given a cup of coffee with some milk, a drop(pingo) of it.
"Cafe Cheio" is a full little demitasse cup of coffee.
"Abatanado" is a large cup of coffee, usually the equivalent to three little demitasse cups.
"Italiana" is a very strong cup of coffee. Very little coffee in a little demitasse cup, but very strong.
"Nescafe" is for those who like coffee the amerycan way. But it's a do-it-yoursel coffee. You'll get a demitasse cup, hot water and a little packet of ground coffee. The best way to make nescafe is to put the coffe in the cup with just a little water and them mix it until you get some cream. Only then, do you put the remaining water.
The best you can drink with a good coffee is a shot of "aguardente", "bagaço", "macieira" or even "amendoa amarga", the later with some drops of lemon juice.

Well, don't fear...regular coffee for your own home brewing is available in the larger supermarkets :)

If I had a shot of brandy with each coffee I drink in a day... (Reply to this comment)

I'd end up on cnet.com drooling on my keyboard instead of on epinions.

As for your review. "I didn't know that" about Portuguese coffee. (espresso only and I don't drink it) And I needed to know cause I could end up there. My company has just automated their lottery and it will be going live soon.

Thanks for the tip, soothsayer :)
I had a problem with my pic not showing up and another Epinions member was kind enough to point that out to me before I noticed. I thought I fixed the problem...but again it disappeared.
I've switched to AOL now for storing the pic. So far, so good. But if I have a problem in the future, I'll take your advice :)

I noticed you use angelfire to store your profile pic. so do i. use .jpg and you get the nasty angelfire logo.

convert it into .gif, and your problems are solved.
