| SurgRN911's Full Review: Royal 15MX Shredder |
In an effort, in todays world, to protect my documents and keep wayward souls from stealing my identity, I purchased a paper shredder. A nice little ditty, the Royal cross-cut shredder was just the ticket. Turns out the joke was on me, who would assume someone would steal the dang shredder? Just one of the many things I now have to replace in my depleted household.
I kicked it up a notch this time around with the Royal 15MX Shredder, this baby kicks butt and takes names. To top it off, all those infernal free CDs you receive in the mail daily from the likes of AOL, Earthlink, etc., there is a home in my shredder for them. Burning your own CDs has taken on a whole new meaning for me. The idea is to destroy the surface of the CD, rendering the data useless, it doesnt actually chop the thing up.
It will accept up to 15 sheets of standard 20 pound paper at a shot although I generally restrict myself to 5 or less. Just dont want to put a strain on the poor little guy. The paper is cross cut and the pieces are so minute that even the most patient person would throw their hands in the air before completing or even attempting to complete reconstruction of a document.
Operating buttons, located on the top of the shredder, are for Auto, Reverse, Off and Overload. Yep, it tells ya if you have made a mistake and tried to put way too much in at one time. A convenient slot in the center of the machine for envelopes and credit cards. There isnt anything like the sound of grinding up a credit card, trust me.
Fairly compact, it measures approximately 2-½ feet tall, 2 feet wide and 1 foot deep. A removable storage bin makes dumping the shredded documents easy as pie. Just in case you forget to turn it off, removing the storage bin shuts the unit off, preventing wayward fingers from getting diced up in the shredding system. It is lightweight as well, coming in at 20 pounds, but it is on rollers for easy moving. There is some assembly required, you have to put the casters on the unit and affix the decals that identify each section of the shredder. For your convenience, the decals are multilingual, as is the instruction manual.
It comes with standard one year warranty on parts with restricted warranty on labor. You must return it to the manufacturer for repair, which could probably be costlier than replacing the machine yourself. They do offer a product support hotline and you can always visit their webpage for more information.
Actually Ive found this shredder to be cleaner in appearance and easier to keep free of jams and cleanup than the prior shredder I had. Now if someone can give me the name of a good home security company
