Pros: Hands-on & promotes the use of imagination. Clean and spacious.
Cons: Wish it were located closer to home! Can be crowded on rainy days.
The Bottom Line: Plan to spend 2-3 hours enjoying yourself as you watch & play with your family. Then go to the Mashpee Commons for dinner and more.

| sgentile's Full Review: Cape Cod Children's Museum |
My family and I recently returned from 9 days in Cape Cod, an almost annual treat for us. My kids are just-turned 4 and almost-6 at the time of this writing. One place we have been making sure we visit for the past 3 years (since discovering it) is the Cape Cod Childrens Museum. This is not only for young kids, you will find a few scientific areas with hands-on activities to keep your school aged child occupied for an hour or two too. If you are planning to visit on a rainy day go early or just be prepared to spend some time in the nearby shopping area called Mashpee Commons. The Mashpee Commons is a fabulous place to walk the sidewalks, shop, eat, catch a movie, paint pottery. The museum does stop letting people in when it reaches its capacity, which you will appreciate when you are inside. Dont wait for a rainy day to visit because Im betting you will want to visit more than once; its really that fabulous! But dont trust me, visit yourself at www.capecodchildrensmuseum.pair.com

Whats there?
The Hands-On Exhibits:
Pirate ship playscape that kids can climb up. Underneath the deck is a secret room with a trunk full of dress up clothes.
Train structure that children can climb through and pretend they are traveling on the train together. There are four cars for them to play in.
Pretend Café Area: This is one of our favorite places to play as a family. There is a booth for customers to place their food orders to the chefs whose kitchen is right beside the booth; separated by a wall with an open window between them. The kitchen is fully stocked with pretend appliances and different types of foods.
The shadow room is a fun area for the entire family. The special wall holds your shadow after the light turns off.
Puppet show area stocked with numerous puppets.
A full-sized rowboat sits against the ocean mural scene behind it. There are life jackets for the kids to put on, sea creatures
all waiting for your seamen to take off on an adventure.
You can put yourself into a human kaleidoscope, draw your childs profile using the shadow wall, talk to one another from opposite ends of the wall with nothing connecting you but these large discs.
There is a science area that is full of interesting hands-on play, dealing with magnets, gravity, weight and other intriguing properties.
The craft tables and room are always popular. Your child can make animal masks, do glue projects and color the pictures of the day.
The Toddler area is an enclosed (yet open) area designed as a whimsical castle. There are places to climb, slide, do puzzles, play on the train table and much much more.
There is a changing table for parents to change little ones. There is ample seating for adults to sit and watch the excitement surrounding them. A gift shop that is stocked with reasonably priced toys and experiment kits. You can easily spend an hour or two here. And just outside the doors is an ice cream machine that has made it easier for us to announce "it's time to leave" to our children. Before you leave you will be wishing this childrens museum was located near you at home!
