Pros: Nav System, Creature Comforts, Audio Quality, Smooth Quiet Ride, Five Star Safety Rating
Cons: needs a touch more power, no tilt mirror for reverse, no telescoping steering wheel
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this vehicle for anyone who wants plenty of room, loves options and gadgets, and wants a perfect blend of handling, power, quiet ride and safety.
kmiller75701's Full Review: 2004 Lincoln Navigator
Being a previous Expedition owner, I already knew I would love the Navigator. The ride is smooth and whisper quiet, the handling is fantastic for a vehicle this size (it's no sports car but it's not meant to be) and it has more "bells and whistles" than almost any other luxury suv on the planet. The upgrade from the Expedition to the Navigator was worth every penny!
It puzzles me that there are a few features on the Expedition that they did not carry over to the Navigator. Both vehicles are 2004 and both are "top of the line" models. On the Expy, when you put the vehicle in reverse, both mirrors tilted down so you could see the curb when parking. On the Navigator apparently they did not feel this was necessary because that feature is not available. Also, on the rear DVD entertainment system for the Expy operates a little differently and makes it easier for the rear passengers to watch a movie with the headphones while the front passengers listen to a CD or radio. One more feature that is disappointing is the inability to enter an address on the Nav system while driving. It disables both the address and point of interest entry, as well as disables the guide feature on the Sirius radio. You should have the ability for a passenger to enter the destination. This is something inherit in both Nav systems, but the DVD based Nav system in the Navigator is FAR superior to the one in the Expedition. Also adds voice commands to the Navigator's infotainment and mapping systems.
Now that I have my three minor gripes out of the way, let me say that I think Lincoln knocked it out of the park with this year's model. If you are a "gadget guy" like myself, you will not be disappointed at all with the Navigator. The controls are very well thought out and the interior is luxurious and durable. They have put a lot of attention to detail in the little things that you would quickly take for granted and wonder how you ever lived without. Power opening and closing rear liftgate, touch screen infotainment system, xenon headlights that light the road like it were daylight, wood steering wheel that is very comfortable to hold onto for a long road trip, air suspension that lowers when exiting the vehicle and raises when placed in 4 wheel drive to add ground clearance, multiple power points for cell phone's etc., power folding rear seats, voice activated controls for both audio and nav systems, power folding exterior mirrors for those tight garages or just when you want to get them out of the way when parking in a crowded lot, auto dimming rear mirror , 9 cup holders for 7 passengers, DVD storage for rear console... I could go on and on but to truly experience the Navigator's capabilities and features you really should drive one.
Sorry to ramble on with my review but I'm completely sold on the Navigator. I have driven most high-end vehicles from Lexus to Volvo to BMW and this is by far my overall favorite to date. Sure, there are always things you like about certain vehicles that sometimes are sometimes not available on others, but the Navigator turns most everything on your wish list into reality.
