| kay67's Full Review: Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner |
About 3 days before my birthday back in April, we purchased a ceramic smoothtop stove at Lowes. Included with my brand new stove was a tiny bottle of Cerama Bryte. I cooked on my stove the very next morning and found out why the Cerama Bryte was included. I ran out of that after 5 or 6 uses. We had to go to Altoona about 2 months ago, so I purchased some more Cerama Bryte at Lowes while in Altoona.
Cerama Bryte Cooktop Cleaner
Lowes is a huge store so it took me awhile to find the Cerama Bryte, even after a lady pointed me in the right direction. I purchased 2-18 ounce bottles since I hate to run out. After we made a few more stops, we were soon headed back home so joy of joys, I could finish cleaning the kitchen. I noticed the graphics on my free bottle of cleaner was identical to the larger 18 ounce bottles of Cerama Bryte.
Cerama Bryte is safe for all smoothtops the front of the bottle claims. Cerama Bryte glass ceramic cooktop cleaner is also recommended for use on: G.E, Whirlpool, Maytag, Hotpoint, Amana, Frigidaire, Jennair, Viking and Kenmore stoves. Shake well before using this cleaner which is the color of milk but the consistency of a runny pancake batter. The bottle states pour directly to cooled stove and rub lightly. Dry surface with soft cloth or paper towel.
This is all fine except for the rub lightly part. I have to use pressure to get my stovetop shiny and pretty like it was when first removed from box. I first wash my stovetop with a well rinsed washrag, to lessen any chances of accidental scratches. Then I pour some cleaner out of the bright yellow flip top opening, on to the spots on the stove where any pans sat when I was cooking. I first try rubbing lightly, but there's always a stubborn burn mark that requires extra effort. I have found since April that this cleaner is somewhat like a paste wax, even though its a liquid. Once I get the stubborn spots clean, I go over the whole surface of the cooktop with the cerama bryte. I allow it to dry, then wipe it all off, which gives me back my brand new shiny-black stovetop.
There is somewhat of a smell, but not overpowering unless you stick your nose clear into the open top of the bottle-then there's a definite smell, LOL. Overall though its not a strong smell unless you are sensitive, then I'd check before purchasing. I noticed while cleaning the stove that I can smell this product. It's not unpleasant, kinda smells like a cleaning product. My eyes never teared nor is it harsh on the hands. Yes, I don't use gloves while cleaning.
We found the 18 ounce (white bottles with black label) of Cerama Bryte cooktop cleaner for around $4.50 at Lowes not including tax if memory serves me right. I have since seen these online in a larger bottle-so shop around. I like the handy flip top opening, although cleaner that has been left near the opening tends to make the cap stick when I try to open the bottle.
The bottle also claims this product is safe and effective for use on the following items: stainless steel sinks, cultured marble sink, porcelain sinks, glass shower doors, fiberglass bathing units, glass cookware(to remove dark spots), and pots&pans.
Supposedly there was a cooktop scraper with my stove when I purchased it-there was not, just the Cerama Bryte cleaner was included. I have since decided I prefer using a little extra effort and time to clean my stovetop with the Cerama Bryte instead of a scraper for those tough burn spots. I'm terrified of scratching my stove so the idea of a scraper in my hands just doesn't bode well for my stove.
Overall I highly recommend this product for your smoothtop ceramic stove. I have only used this product on my stovetop so far, since I use antibacterial cleaners in the bathroom. It works great on my stove every time, even if a little force is required to get those burned spots I seem to get every time I cook, no matter how much I stand over the stove. When I purchased my new cooktop, I also bought new stainless steel pans with flat bottoms per the recommendations of the paperwork with my stove. So I cannot comment on this products effectiveness as a cleaner for pans, since Dawn is and always will be my dish cleaner.
I could find no list of ingredients however there is this caution on the back of the Cerama Bryte bottle: Eye iritant. Contains citric acid. First aid for eyes: Remove contacts immediately flush eyes with water and if irritation persists consult your doctor. Also, DO NOT mix with other household chemicals. Tested and qualified for CERAN. Keep out of reach of children. Contains no phosphates and not tested on animals.
