Pros: Handling in all situations, interior layout, sunroof, sheer power, the seat armrests, cargo area
Cons: Inchape smartalec dealer network, no distance to empty estimate, not really anything else
The Bottom Line: The forester is a great all round vehicle, However, it's not a 4wd, nor is it a large cargo carrier, or a sports car, but does all things well.
My first new car purchase, after company supplied cars for the last 10 years. The only downside to the Subaru buying "experience" is the smug pr*cks who reside in most of the Melbourne dealerships. When having a go at price negotiation, the attitude is "this is the price, take it or leave it".
Having said that, I can see why subaru's are so popular, in particular the Forester.
I have new commodores for years, and always thought they were good cars, however after only driving my XT for 6 months, I find most other cars unpleasant to drive. It is amazing how quickly you get used to the quality of build and ride in this thing. Power from the turbo is great, and if driven sensibly, fuel economy is pretty good. The sunroof is unbelievable. Seats are very comfortable, and dash layout is sensible.
As a sales rep, I do a lot of km's, but I also need to move things from time to time. The cargo area is great with the seats folded, and long things can be put in the ppassenger area with the front seat all the way back.
Another tip is to get a quality window tint, it is n ot good to put metal film over the radio aerial. I have done a fair bit of light 4wd'ing (good ground clearance) and it has been great, but don't get over ambitious and follow hiluxes or land barges. Nothing at all has gone wrong, and services are inexpensive. I love this car!
