Since the day we moved into our house (nearly 4 years ago), we have had a problem with poison ivy growing on one of our fences. Go figure? We don't live in the woods, or the country. In fact we live in a subdivision, with houses to the left and right of us, directly and diagonally behind us in both directions, in front of us; okay you get the picture. So where the poison ivy came from, I haven't a clue. My husband, however, has never taken the initiative to get rid of the poison ivy until just recently when I pointed out the lovely green vine our son was playing next to in the backyard. Luckily he didn't get into it!
My husband's words were, "We have some Round Up out in the garage that we bought a couple years ago! I'll put it out if you can find it." So, I went on a quest in the garage to find the ancient bottle of Round Up. Didn't take me long to find it because it was right where I had put it, probably 3 years ago. My advice is to throw away round up that has been sitting around for long periods of time. Here is why:
We have never had a problem with Round Up taking care of a weed problem. However, this time when my husband sprayed the poison ivy it did not kill it, and I waited 2-3 days to see a result. Usually we have seen results the next day. Since the solution didn't seem to be working I decided to reapply the Round Up to the poison ivy. The directions on the bottle were practically glued together, thus they were illegible and I didn't know how much concentrate to add per gallon of water. I simply guessed and poured what I thought would make an appropriate chemical balance, then reapplied the mixture. Within 3 days the poison ivy began to die.
About Round Up
Round Up is a killer, that is about all that needs to be said about it. Spray it on just about anything and it will get rid of it. (No it won't get rid of annoying neighbors, etc. so don't try it.) Round Up kills weeds, grass, poison ivy, poison oak, etc. Just be very careful not to spray anything you don't want to die.
We have used Round Up to kill unwanted grass in the driveway cracks, weeds such as dandelions, and poison ivy. Usually the sprayed items begin to die within 24 hours. The bad thing about Round Up is that it is not just a weed killer. You must be careful when applying Round Up because it will kill just about anything it touches.
My husband loves this product because he can get rid of the annoying grass in the driveway without having to try to pull it out. It is also a much better way to kill poison ivy, especially if you are allergic to it.
Round Up would be a perfect product for anyone that lives in a wooded area with poisonous plant problems, or for anyone that simply needs to clean off a fence line. Round Up truly works wonders!
Just make sure the bottle is in readable condition! It's too bad that they don't put expiration dates on the bottles. :o)
