The Bottom Line Planning a surprise marriage proposal can be as special as waiting until a special night, or when she first gets out of the shower.
I came across this while doing a swap with TazzyFoxy, thanks for the idea. So here's my funny story, well to me it is. Jeff doesn't think so. I was in the the nastiest of divorces and had met Jeff at the start of it. He was in middle his divorce, when we met. How did we meet? He used to fix my Ford Escort Wagon. Anyways one day he showed up at the apartment complex I was living in. He was worried about me because, I hadn't called him, to come fix it. I know now, it was just an excuse to see me. :) We went out that night, after he begged my roomie to babysit, my 11 month old daughter. Was such an odd first date. We are in May 3 1993. Fast forward to December 1994 we were living together in a 2 bedroom trailer in a pretty run down trailer park that we were co-managing. Meaning we lived there as police, no money or anything. Heads up here, I wear hearing aids, and I am technically legally deaf without them. I had just gotten out of the shower and walked in the living room to see how dinner was moving. It wasn't, Jeff was on the phone with someone. {Later found out he was talking to my mother!} So in a huff, I turned to dry off and get dressed. That's when my little Jessica came to tell me Craigie {Jeff's middle name is Craig} wanted me. Okay I am still not dressed and no hearing aids in. Nice picture in your head? Huh. He was asking me something, but I couldn't hear him nor read his lips. So I asked him "Huh What did ya say?". "Will you marry me?" "WHAT? YOU WAIT UNTIL I AM NAKED TO ASK ME?!!" Damn if I didn't start laughing my head off, with the look on his face. In his mind, I had basically just said no. I went to go get some clothes on and my hearing aids when I came back in the living room. Jessica was asking if she could call him daddy now. Oh brother, two against one. "Now what do you want to ask me, now that I am dressed, and can hear you." Hope twinkled in his eyes. "Well will ya?" "Will I what?" I wasn't making this easy. :) "Will you let me be Jessica's daddy? Will you be my wife?" I just stood there and busted up laughing again. I wasn't taking him seriously, since we had discussed this 8 months ago, and he never wanted to get married again. He didn't need that piece of paper. But I did and he knew it. "Denise, will you please stop laughing and answer me?" I stopped dead in my tracks. "Are you being serious? I thought you didn't need a piece of paper?" "Yes I do, if I want you." I was so shocked, I started crying. "Yes I will marry you." Jessica piped in and said "Yeah" and the three of us had a group hug, as she called it. Two weeks later I got a beautiful engagement ring, while driving down Blanding Road! That next Valentine's Day we got married at the Court House clerk's office. We then went to Burger King for lunch. Finally three months later we went to Disney World with Jessica and Jeff's son Jeffrey for our honeymoon. They were both three. They are 8 months apart. We enjoyed sharing two people we both loved so much, on our big adventure. As of today, we are working on year 7. And I will always have this great story to tell our five children, and all our grandchildren. Having a his/hers/and ours family is just as special, as any other. |
