Sears.com is an online store that I infrequently shop at, but is one that is handy when shopping for tools. I adore online shopping (probably obvious without saying), whereas my spouse has warmed up to it, yet still likes the in-store approach. This merchant satisfies both needs, sort-of. While using the "Buy online. Pick up in store." option, which is available on a majority of the items sold, we can shop online together (thus settling on the overall sum, with no large post-shopping bill surprises), yet my spouse can drive to the store and have the merchandise put in hand. No fear... those of you that prefer to have the item sent to your home, can pay for shipping/handling and receive shipping delivery.
As much as a I appreciate certain features of this online site, I maintain one big frustration with the Sears Online Store: limited selection of merchandise categories in comparison to home page appearance. For example, don't expect to complete a child related clothing shopping excursion (that compares to the store front) at this site!
Regardless of certain frustrations... the site is easy to navigate, albeit slightly busy: the search capability or category listings allow me to find the item(s) I desire, graphics load quickly (even with dial-up connection), items are easily placed into shopping cart and checkout is painless, confirmation emails are received, shipping options include in-store pickup, and charges to our card have been accurate.
Overall I recommend this site but caution that it has limitations. If you are shopping for tools, this is an acceptable site. If you are shopping for clothing, you might be disappointed!

Our Experience
My Father uses the Craftsman line of tools; thus the primary reason for patronizing this site. It is simple to navigate to the Tool section of this site, either select tools from the top or side bar of the home page. You then arrive at the Tools Department, which gives you the option of browsing the following categories:
Bench Power Tools Compressors & Air Tools Electrical Shop Hand Tools, Carpentry Hand Tools, General Purpose Home Security & Garage Door Openers Mechanics Tools Portable Power Tools Power Tool Accessories Storage, Chests & Cabinets Tool Sets Wet-Dry Vacs Workboots
Additionally, you can use the search box, browse by brand, or click onto one of the many advertisements this merchant has listed in the mid-section (which I happen to think is too full, very busy, and I usually ignore). Use of the categories takes you to a category page, which lists many subcategories. Selection of a subcategory takes you to a search result page, which allows you to narrow your results, search by feature, or simply browse the results. Sears.com offers a huge variety of tools for purchase.
A majority of the items sold at this site qualify for the "Buy online. Pick up in store." option, one that equals zero shipping charges. When you select this option, you will receive a confirmation email (soon after completion of purchase or within two-hours of completion) that tells you that your item(s) are Ready-for-Pick-Up or the due-in-store date. Take the information from the email to the store with you and locate the Merchandise Pick-Up Kiosk. You will enter information provided in the email and then a sales associate will retrieve the merchandise. My spouse states that this process is simple, but that you must have a copy of the email and the card you used to complete the purchase.
Unfortunately the clothing is limited on this site. If you want to order French Toast uniforms for your children, great, shopping is available. But if you want to browse the traditional clothing selections, such as those covered by their Kid Vantage program, you're outta luck. The site tells us that they will offer more clothing selection later this year, but provides no date. There is, however, a connection to landsend.com for clothing options.
It is my hope that this merchant modifies the online site to more closely reflect in-store merchandise. In the mean time we will likely continue to use the site for the tool department.
