Pros: White side does a good job removing scuff marks and dirt without chemical smells.
Cons: Blue side is not a sponge and does not perform as well as I expected.
The Bottom Line: Makes cleaning neater and easier... Good for soap scum, hard water stains, scuff marks on walls and much more. Blue side is not a sponge... don't expect it to be.

| michiman1's Full Review: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Duo |
I must admit, my experience with the original Mr. Clean Magic Eraser was extremely limited but it seems that Proctor and Gamble has improved a good product with the introduction of the new Mr Clean Magic Eraser Duo.
What exactly is a Magic Eraser Duo?
Well, simply put... I have no idea! It would best be described as a two-sided cleaner. The white side, described by the manufacturer as "an innovative cleaning material that penetrates surface grooves to easily and thoroughly break up tough dirt and grime". This mysterious white side of the Mr Clean Magic Eraser Duo is a light, very soft sponge-like material. The blue side is a thin layer of foam that is available for wiping as well as helping you hold the cleaner until the white side is gone. Users of the original Magic Eraser will find the blue foam a welcome addition as the original tended to disintegrate in your hand during use.
First job... wall scuff marks
I was quite excited to try out the Mr Clean Magic Eraser Duo on the walls of the steps leading down to our finished lower level. The scuff marks were irritating me to the point of preparing to repaint. The walls are covered in a flat latex paint. From reading Proctor and Gamble's comments as well as the countless on-line reviews, I was pretty confident of the final results. I was quite amazed as the marks disappeared one by one.
The directions specifically highlighted the word gently when describing how to attain the best results. I must report that removing many of the marks took something more than a gentle rub before being fully eliminated. Even on the flat latex surface, the cleaned areas were slightly noticeable. For this reason I do suggest heeding the manufacturer's warning and test on semi-gloss, satin or gloss surfaces before use.
Attacking the dreaded shower
I attempted to try the Mr Clean Magic Eraser Duo out on our glass shower doors. Since we are on our own well, tap water is run through a water softener but still forces us to keep up with regular cleaning. The glass accumulates a white soap and hard water film despite wiping it down following each shower. I used the white side of the eraser and in this case gentle rubbing was all that was required as the film was not too bad. Although the film did come off, the eraser did leave a bit of residue and water droplets. At this point I flipped over to the blue side, fully expecting the droplets and residue to wipe clean. The blue "sponge" did not remove the remaining residue so I found it necessary to follow with a clean rag to finish the job. All in all, I would say this product did well on the glass shower doors and eliminated plenty of elbow grease.
I then proceeded to wipe down the fiberglass shower walls. Again, the white portion of the eraser took the dirt and film off the walls. The soap film and dirt came off the walls and floor. Unfortunately the dirt tended to combine with the pieces of the eraser that broke off and formed small "balls" that would cling to the shower. I flipped the Mr Clean Magic Eraser Duo over to the blue side in anticipation the "sponge" would wipe away the remnants... to no avail. It took rinsing with clear water and a real sponge to finish the job.
The shower job was previously completed with Lime Away which did a respectable job as well but left an unpleasant chemical smell. I was quite impressed that such a tough job was done with water alone eliminating fumes, gloves and chemicals.
Longevity
After cleaning the entire shower stall and removing the marks along the steps, it looked like just over half the eraser remained for future cleanups. Continue using the eraser until the white side has disappeared then simply discard the remaining blue foam into the trash. My wife proceeded to use the Mr Clean Magic Eraser Duo on our daughter's bathroom the following day. For the most part, the eraser is now nearly finished.
A few cautions
Once I got the product wet and squeezed out the excess water, I immediately noticed the water did not run out completely clear. This leads me to believe that Proctor and Gamble have added some type of cleaning agent into the eraser. They do offer the following caution:
CAUTION: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF TODDLERS AND PETS TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL INGESTION. DO NOT USE ON SKIN OR OTHER PARTS OF THE BODY. USING ON SKIN WILL LIKELY CAUSE ABRASIONS.
I have to admit, I did not use gloves while using the product and had no ill effects what so ever. The manufacturer also suggests trying the eraser on an inconspicuous spot to see if the surface will scratch or dull. They do not recommend use on polished, brushed, satin, dark or faux finishes.
Value and Final Recommendation
This product was delivered to me as part of the manufacturer's product introduction. My acceptance of the product was contingent on my offering a totally unbiased and honest review. It appears that this product will be marketed in a two-pack, however I actually received a single eraser without it's original packaging. I am at a bit of a disadvantage to offer my opinion on the product's value since I am unsure what the suggested retail price will be.
We have owned and used the original Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for some time on an occasional basis. It does appear like Mr. Clean has been listening to consumers. The addition of the blue foam sponge definitely makes using the Mr Clean Magic Eraser Duo easier to use... even if it's use as a sponge is limited. We will keep one of these in our home at all times, mostly for occasional hard to clean jobs. I recommend you do as well.
