Elegant but difficult to use if you are boosting existing network

My main Airport wireless router is upstairs and I wanted to give the signal downstairs a bit of a boost so I placed the new Airport express downstairs and followed all the installation instructions. Nothing happened. I tried re-seting the express and still nothing. I called Apple support and they basically gave up. I have a G-5, a Powerbook and the latest model Imac connected to my existing airport wireless network and still nothing. I am less than enamored of Airport. Linksys is the way to go,
