| gungian's Full Review: Es Seattle/Bellevue |
Mrs. G. and I recently flew to Seattle for the birth of our first grandchild. Spending precious time with Gavin took priority over everything else. So please pardon me if this posting is a bit sparse.
Our son and daughter-in-law live in Kirkland just north and east of Seattle. We originally planned on staying right in town. Then Baby G. [even though she recently turned 28] decided she was also going to come out to welcome her first nephew. As there would now be three of us, we opted for a facility with suite accommodations.
There are three (3) Embassy Suites properties in the greater Seattle, Washington area. This review is on the Bellevue location. This was very convenient for us as it is nestled at the intersection of a major east-west route (I-90) and I-405 which runs north-south. So we were a straight 30 minute shot to SEATAC airport and a leisurely 15 minute drive to Gavin.
Embassy Suites has a long standing reputation for comfy, well-appointed rooms. Ours had a king bed, dressing table, and spacious armoire in the sleeping area. Plenty of drawer space and a 25" TV made that room a nice retreat. There were also several extra pillows which came in very handy for propping tired legs or serving as impromptu back rests.
The bathroom was well-ventilated and came with a glass-enclosed tub/shower. Housekeeping was generous with the linen so we had plenty of fluffy, good-sized bath towels. The sink/vanity area took up one entire wall. This was especially welcome with two women - each encumbered with her individual cosmetics, curling iron, mirror, and myriad other essentials. [Oh yea, my toothbrush and electric razor also found ample roosting space.]
The living area was very adequate for our 10-day stay. Baby G. proclaimed the sleeper sofa sleepable - though the mattress seemed a bit thin to me. The room came with another 25" TV with HBO, video games, and direct access to the Internet [for an additional fee]. We stayed little time in the room and most of that was spent watching coverage of the summer Olympics. [Big Plus: One of the included channels was a Canadian broadcast station so we got to see lots of Olympic events that did not feature U.S. Teams. This was much broader coverage than that afforded by the American-centric NBC.] The room also boasted a most comfortable easy chair [as attested to by my frequent naps]. We also had a table [about 3' square] and four dining chairs. A deep sink, microwave, and small refrigerator rounded out the in-room dining arrangements.
Included in the room rate, Embassy Suites features made-to-order breakfast each morning. This usually runs between 6:00 AM and 9:30 AM so there was plenty of time even for late sleepers like Baby G. During our stay we had various fruit, omelets, pancakes, toast, waffles, and yogurt. All were well-prepared and tasty. Embassy also hosts a Manger's Reception for two hours each night. Each guest is entitled to two (2) drinks and there were plenty of chips & dip, veggies, and salsa to go around.
Our only complaint concerned our telephone. Several times our phone would give a quick incoming ring and then go silent. We also got a couple of calls when there was no one on the line when we answered. I reported this to the front desk after a couple of days. The chief engineer looked into the problem and soon provided the answer. It turned out that our room number was identical to the local area code. It seems that guests were ignoring the instructions - or forgetting - to dial the prefix when they attempted to call out. So as soon as they hit the third digit - our phone would ring. [Big Hint: You can bet that, in the future, I will specifically ask for a room that is not synonymous with the area code.]
All-in-all, it was a most satisfying stay. I can recommend Embassy Suites - even for those of you who are not welcoming your first grandson.
[P.S. Most grandparents are convinced that their grandchild is the most beautiful, talented, and well-behaved in the world. I am no exception.]
Welcome to the world, Gavin!
