I have been a loyal Photoworks (Seattle Filmworks) customer for more than five years; however, that is quickly changing. Recently, I have had several problems getting digital prints from Photoworks.
Not a good choice for Digital camera owners
Photoworks only offers a couple of choices for dealing with the different aspect ratio of a digital camera print and a traditional print. A couple of years ago, they offered software to allow you to chose how your pictures were printed or cropped. Recently, they replaced those tools with more automated tools that make the decision for you. I now have heads that are cut off and poorly cropped pictures. The other choice is a pan and zoom, which basically means they zoom out and give you large white edges on two sides of the print (UGLY).
Not Competitive
Unfortunately, Photoworks is not remaining competitive. They used to offer free film and reasonable rates. Now their digital prints cost 29 cents for a 4x6, which isn't bad...but there are several places that offer 19 cents. Given the average quality of the prints and poor cropping tools, why would anyone pay 29 cents?
Average Customer Service
If you can get in contact or get a response from their customer service, then you will probably be satisfied. When they overcharged me on some prints, I sent an email message to their Customer Service email address. I never got a response back from them. Later, my wife tried to call them, but the lines were either busy or no one answered. It took a few days and a lot of persistence, but we finally got in contact with a technical person, who managed to resolve our billing problem. I'm happy with the end result, but it was too painful to get there.
Conclusion
I can no longer recommend Photoworks to my family and friends. They lost their competitive edge. Their an average company charging prices above their competition.
